Advice on visiting Portugal in Late April/ May
Hi there,
We are thinking of going to Portugal towards the end of April for about 6/8 weeks. We wonder what the weather would be like then given Portugal's potentially cold/ windy weather at that time of the year. We're thinking of going
by ferry to Santander or Bilbao. We live in Poole and have been motorhomig for ten years and our most adventurous trip was to Dubrovnik, which was really good. Any tips about toll roads and generally on Portugal would be very helpful. We're reasonably fluent
in French but have no Spanish or Portugeuse language skills!
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

We spent three months touring Spain and Portugal last year as per our blog - link above - and were particularly impressed with Portugal. They tend to be a bit quieter and calmer than the Spanish which suits us, but so friendly. As you will see, we used
Camping Turiscampo as favoured by Deleted User User and it is a good base for days out but found equally enjoyable sites further north. We were at Cape St Vincent to see the sunset on mid-summers day and it was windy and cool but so atmospheric - a must-do. Camping
Chave Grande near Satao was my personal favourite on several counts, in particular the delightful owners. Our day out in the Douro wine area was memorable. Looks like we shall be in France for our big trip this year as our first grandchild is due early August
and would like to be reasonably close to home.0 -
As part of our 12 week tour we arrive in the Algarve on 16 April I would just like to say that I have found the blogs written by Another David and LynniB invaluable in our planning......Thank you both.

Sory but the stories section is down for maintainance so I cannot post a link but we stayed at a couple sites in the midle of Portugal and had a fantastic time with great weather. It was around May 2014. If you look at my stories then you can find them,
they were Post It from Camping Chevey Grande and also Tomar. Regards, Roy0 -
Many thanks to all those kind people who have responded so far. In my original post I forgot to mention a couple of additional facts. We have an Autotrial Tracker motorhome and are aiming to explore around the Porto and Lisbon areas. My brother-in-law visited
there in September and enjoyed the visit. Although we're still hoping to go in late April/May we will have new Grandparent duties in late June and we could then go to Portugal in September for 6/8 weeks, rather then April/May. We'll probably need a good rest
by then! We wondered how cold it might be in April/May? Also, we're thinking of using Brittany ferries' Economique ferry, which is about £100 cheaper each way. Has anybody tried this ferry or would it be better to use the more expensive one?Sorry about the additional questions!
Regards,
Mike and Cathy
