Towing a car on an A frame
I wonder if anyone can answer a query about towing a small car behind a MH using the latest design of A frame. Quite simply, is is legal to tow a car on an A frame in France? Have been looking everywhere and no-one appears to be able to answer the question

I have towed a car in the UK for 3 years, without any hassle at all, but would not chance it on the Continent. Too many bad stories, although some say they have had no problems. If you do, be prepared to separate your unit and let your missus drive the car. My missus cannot drive, so, I won't chance it.
Evidently its to do with Napoleonic Law, unless an action (like towing a car on an A-Frame) is specifically legal, then it is illegal by default.
Unlike in the UK, where unless an action is specifically illegal, then it's legal, until proved otherwise in a court of law, by precedent.

Page 3 of the motorhome thread there is a discussion about towing with an A frame.
We have towed on the continent using an A frame, we have been stopped but not fined, however we no longer tow other than in the UK.
Suggest you check out the thread I mentioned as there is lots of info on it.

A few years ago we were considering changing to a motorhome and were buying MMM magazine. I clearly remember, we discussed it with motor homing friends, that the explanation given by rayjsj above was their response to a readers enquiry. Another point made was that just because some people had done it did I not mean it was permissible. In fact lots of people break the speed limits-some get caught but, crucially, these people may be dealt with in a number of ways- you get points and a fine, someone else gets a ticking off.
If that does not dissuade you just think about Clint Eastwoods question in Dirty Harry!
