We stayed there during the  Easter 2014 weekend. Despite it being a holiday period there was no need to reserve a place. The site is ideal for visiting the city (local bus or train near to the site) and has good facilities. The menu in the on site restaurant is a bit basic but there are lots of other places to eat locally.

Have you looked at Campsite Friedensbrucke, at Neckargemund.  We stayed there wuth Lutz and David Klynne recommended it to me.  Siuated right on the river and is ACSI Camping Card taken. Owner is Dutch and very helpful.  We are going back in April so easy for Heidleberg.  Lovely city have been there many times. Website here

Dianne and Tigi  and any one else who has stated there, the Friedensbruke site has a lot of reviews saying there is a lot of road noise. What did you find?

I do not remember any the river is on one side of the site the main road running parallel with that is way back behind the site.  The road the other side of the river is only a very minor road.  The only place any road noise woud be heard is if you were
sited near the bridge which is at the entrance end of the Site.  We were parked way beyond that and heard nothing.  Hope this helps. We are going back in April.
