Changed to Pension Credit time limits for overseas

Previously you could be absent from Great Britain for a period of 13 weeks for example on holiday and still receive benefits such as Pension Credit etc.  However this will change on 1st April from 13 weeks to 4 weeks and does create a problem as many people go to Spain or elsewhere for the winter.

See here for more information

Note:  this relates to State Pension Credit (not State Pension) and Housing Benefit.amongst others.

and with the new passport checks on leaving GB they have a way of knowing  how long you have been out of the country.

I recall one time peedee when we were passing through border control at Calais the customs officer noted when he scanned our passport we had been out of the UK for a considerable time and remarked on it, also asking if we owned property abroad. I just told
him we were on our 'Gap Year' and we moved along. Regards, Roy

Of course the question should be, if you can afford 13 weeks holiday abroad, should you be on benefits?

Can we please keep this thread to information only rather than turning it into a discussion about the pros and cons of benefits which risks it being suspended.

The way it reads it seem to apply to all claiments,so your passports chip will probably be used  to monitor it

At the risk of asking for a slap...how can people that have pension benefits afford weeks and weeks abroad holidays?

I think we'd be surprised just what a good life some people manage to have whilst being supported on benefits!

The original information is a matter of fact. Those that it might apply to will no doubt find it of interest. Unfortunately rather than treat it as a matter of fact it has turned into a discussion about benefits and as such I shall suspend this discussion
to allow the Community Manager to review and decide whether it remains suspended or is reopened.
