Qaint Locations in France

Hi, I'm about to venture abroad for the first time in France and wondered if anyone can recommend any quaint kind of market town type places along the coast nearest the UK.  I don't want to travel that far just in case we're late for the ferry crossing home
as I'm a little nervous of that. I'm hoping to go for about 10 days so I should be able to get some sort of distance from La Havre where I'm planning to sail to.  Any comments would be welcome.  Many thanks, Lesley

Try Montreuil sur mer, it's about 30 miles from Calais (possibly Boulougne) and is not on the sea.its inland. It's very pretty with some nice restaurants. Boulougne itself is a nice place, avoid calais particularly with all of the recent problems.

As this thread is very specific, I will move it to the Overseas section where I'm sure the right people will see it.

    Best wishes

Honfleur just across the estuary from Le Havre - market town, and port combined.  Lovely setting, great seafood (and other) restaurants, and even better markets!  You'll have no problems getting back for the ferry.

    Honfleur markets and information

There are also some beautiful timbered villages inland,  the beach and buildings of Deauville, plenty of other markets, and it's definitely an area worth exploring.

The site in Honfleur itself doesn't get good reviews, but there are others around the area which are better rated including this one: Le Catiniere

    Ditto, Saint-Vaast

Caravan site 5 mins walk from the market. Not near Le Harve though

Yes, change the ferry booking. Go to Cherbourg instead of Le Havre. Or in one way and out the other - make a little tour along the coast and see them both.

Etretat and Fecamp are rather nice. Nostaligic too if you are a Monet fan.

Another vote for Honfleur and Montreuil.

Honfleur by night is something special, we stayed there over new year (hotel) and that was on a higher level again. Spectacular!
