Route 66

We're planning a trip to the U.S.A. in the spring to get our kicks! I'm looking for a guide called EZ 66 which is reckoned to be the best.  Amazon want about £30.00 inc. shipping - which a bit steep. If anyone has done the trip using this guide and wishes
to sell it let me know.If there an alternative which is as good I would appreciate  some advice. Thanks.

    Daughter gets a lot of things from Ebay.  You could have a look see.  Touched on Route 66 in Arizona around FlagstaffeHappy.  Not sure if you are doing  your own driving, how about a sat nav? You can hire them.  A friend of mine that I used to travel to work with went on a harley davidson bike with her hubby, but did the first stint from Chigaco to St Louis by car as it knocked loads off the price.

    Hi tombar,

    We will be driving ourselves from Chicago to L.A. and we will have a sat nav. The difficulty as I understand is the route is a bit fragmented and can be puzzling. The guide I'm looking for gives 'turn by turn' directions thus making it a lot easier.

    I know Billy Connolly did the Route 66, if you have no other success, either contact the BBC to see what they used or even contact the equivalent of American Tourism, although I'm assuming you've done this already (Amazon.com may have this type of map, and
    if so, then order one and have it delivered to your first hotel).  Reviews will tell you if its any good

    Thanks tombar, but I have already checked Amazon and I think that they ship them from the U.S. hence the price.Yes Billy Connolly has a book and video out but they don't  give 'turn by turn' instructions I just wandered If any members had used one for a
    'once in a lifetime' trip and had no further use for it.

    We used parts of Route 66 on a motorhome trip some years ago - through New Mexico and Arizona. TBH it wasn't that exciting, and lots of the places were semi-derelict.

    If you get decent road maps (the State tourist office often supplies them) you can trace the route.

    Whatever you decide I would recommend National Park, State Park and Forest Service camsites (or campgrounds as they have it) over the commercial ones which in our experience were often little more than expensive parking lots.

    Thanks iansoady, but we will hiring a car and stopping at motels and hotels along the way and know that some places are a little run down.I didn't think about buying from State tourist offices,but that's a possible.

    my sons have done 66 couple times on harleys which they hired had sat nave but said used maps more but did go off the beaten track a lot.
