Biting the bullet! Where to stay near Bilbao
Hi all, I am going to bite the bullet and catch the ferry to Bilboa to avoid the road with the kids, first time in Spain, can you recommend a nice site near Bilboa, ideally near a beach and town and not to busy!

Which site guides do you have? They are always helpful, but if you really have none then just google Camping Bilbao.

We used Camping Portuondo when we visited Guernica in December 2014. I have to say that when we were there it was wet miserable and muddy, but it is a lovely site in a great position and
the people were very friendly. Easy to get into Guernika for the museum and into Bilbao for the city and the Guggenheim. Only downside is the access road is a bit steep and narrow. The best sites along the northern coast of Spain are the other side of Santander, where the beaches are bigger and you have the Picos de Europa as a backdrop.

When we have come into Bilbao then about an hour or so away is Zarautz, which is in all the guides and in Camping Cheques. Good site, not too far from the town with a good bar and restaurant.

We stopped at
Playa Arenillas and visited Bilbao by bus. Apart from the city visit, we would agree with Deleted User User that you might want to press on down to the Med to keep the kids happy. Here's our
'story' with a photo of the beach.0 -
Went to Bilbao last year, stayed at Camping Sopelana, about 20 km round the bay from the ferry terminal. 15 minutes walk to the metro to Bilbao in one direction, 10 minutes to the beach in the other direction. Small pitches, narrow access roads make siting
a van interesting, but clean, convenient and sounds good for what you want. Bilbao is brilliant, but take an umbrella! Also in the area, useful for motorhomers, is an aire in the village of Soplana, at the bottom of the hill, very smart, hook ups, close to shops and metro station.

Playa Joyel at Noja is a fantastic site with direct access on to a beautiful beach. Good facilities and good sized pitches also very clean. It has entertainment for adults and children. We went in August last year and yes did need an umberella but only for
one day!!! We wanted to return this year but our Motorhome is for some reason now too big to book a pitch between July and August Hope
this helps.0
