Seasonal pitch in France

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone has a seasonal/long term pitch in France and what they think of it? I would like to tow my caravan down to France at Easter, and then leave it on pitch to return to via aeroplane for holidays through out the year, eg.
May bank holidays, summer half term, school holidays July and August etc. And then tow it home at the end of the October half term holidays. Or would it be better to simply book the required nights at the chosen caravan park, and then book storage locally
in between times? I am really grateful for any advice as I've never brought the caravan to France at all. Thanks

Which area and which airport do you have in mind?

I think the best plan might be for you to visit campsites in that area and find one which will store your caravan on their own premises and then tow it out on to a pitch for you as and when you want to use it. I know several people who do that. But you need to make a visit and inspect several sites before you make the decision.

There are campsites which also do storage - and they will bring your caravan out on to a pitch, and even set up your awning, as long as you store with them.  This can be cheaper than paying for a seasonal pitch which can be quite costly.

Whereabouts are you thinking of?  Some areas of France are not well served with airports, and car hire to and from the caravan may cost more than you think.

We store our caravan in central France, but pick it up for a holiday twice a year, then drop it off and drive home again.

I would look at convenient flights from your local airport, and then circle some areas where you might be able to fly to during your holidays as some airports have only one or two flights per week into the smaller regional airports.  Once you've decided
on areas, come back for ideas about pitches/storage/seasonal pitches.

Thanks. I was thinking of the Bordeaux region as I can get reasonably priced flights from my local airport, and that region looks very pretty. Any experience of this area? Also, any hints or tips with regards to putting my van in storage abroad?

If you start with UKCampsite.co.uk and use their campsite search button you can get a list of about 40 campsites within reach of Bordeaux which have storage facilities. All sort of sites, some very large, some very small.

Why not either fly down, rent a car and go check out the campsites which interest you? Or take the caravan on an initial tour of the area and find a campsite where you can leave it ?

Bear in mind that if your caravan is insured with this Club then it will not be covered if you are storing the van in France. You will need to change your insurer.
