Lake Garda
We went to Lake Maggiore last year and loved it. Thinking of doing Lake Como and Garda this year (beg of June). Is Como in the ACSI book? I can't find any campsites mentioned there. Would appreciate recommendations for both Lakes and would we have to book,
have never done so before in either France or Italy. We will travel from the French and Italian Riviera and up to the Lakes as we did last year. Thanks

The only two sites on omo in the ACSI book are on page 612 of book 2, sites 2899 and 2900.
We've not touched Como before, but on Garda we wuld recommend Baia Verde, ACSI 2934. Watch for the German school holidays, as Garda gets very busy then, particularly atb the top end.
Another lake to consider, much quieter but ever bit as scenic, is Lake Iseo, between Como and Garda. We stayed at Covelo ACSI 2893, in October 2012 and were pitche quite literally on the lakeside.

Hi,
We have been going to Italy for a few years and have used three different sites on three lakes.
We have stayed at Camping Bella Italia at Peschiera del Garda most,10 times, last being 2015.That probably shows that we like it........a lot and we may be back later this year.It is a big and very busy site and may not be to all tastes but it has a lot
going for it in regard to its position, right on the lake and walking distance into town, and the surrounding area with Verona 20 mins away and Venice app 90.
We have stayed at Valle Romantica near Maggiore and it is totally different being quite small but we really enjoyed it and have stayed there three times.
The last site is actually on a small lake which is a nature reserve near to Lake Como,Camping Rannochio. Again it is on the smaller side but its location is idyllic and Como is beautiful.
One key thing will be the time you are going and there will be no need to book, but Bella Italia can be full in June and we loved it.
You could also take a look here;

We stayed near Desenzano on Lake Garda some years ago in an apartments - I have no idea what campsites are in the area but it was a great base for the area with Sirmione right beside us and the train station with direct trains to Milan, Verona and Venice
handy too.0 -
Bella Italia at Peschiera is nice but large and busy. If you prefer something smaller camping Cappuchini is good. It is next to Bella, accessable either from the main road or from the coast road, in the ACSI book I think. We also liked the sites on the lakeside at Bardolino though found them busier than we expected in June. There is a large site at Lazise with a beach path to the walled town,I think called Spiaggia D'Oro We enjoyed a few days there. The other side of the lake is quieter - we stayed a few days at camping Fornella, a large but attractive site with good amenities but a bit remote. It is certainly worth checking out the German school holidays as the sites get very busy at those times.

Stayed at Camping Fontinnella at Moniga del Garda, it is the CC European Sites Directory, it is situated on the shore of the lake

We have stayed at both Bella Italia and Camping Cisano, of the two I think I prefered Bella Italia. I quite like the look of Cappuchini which strangely was more than half empty when Bella Italia was bursting at the seems? The only thing that put me off was the indifferent attitude of the person at reception when I asked if we could look round the site. I think Russell (Kontiki Kid) has stayed there. The Municipal at Lazise looks an interesting site. If we get to Italy this year I would quite like to try Torbole at the north end of the Lake as there is a camper stop there.

As mentioned above try to avoid the German Pentecost holiday, it's 8 weks after easter for 2 weeks - the clue is in the ACSI dates for some sites in the Garda area! We have used the Cisano site it's big and busy and out of season they do not take reservations; first come first served so if you want to stay there arrive about 11am and you shouuld get a pitch. Best on lake side of the road.

Previous post:
Gives (my) comments on Como (sites nowhere near Garda standard, places worthwhile)
For Garda we used:
Top: Torbole (lots of sites) very nice town
Camping Al Porto almost on the lake.
And Bottom: Camping Sirmione right on the lake, both great.
Had initially wanted to use Francesco which was in ACSI BUT, on arrival a) only one poor pitch left, b) VERY large and crowded, even in low season c) OH (she's always right) wouldn't countenance staying and we were overjoyed (not too strong) to find Sirmione.
Would use either again and hoping to, Enjoy!

Pfingsten is from 17th to 28th of June (for southern german schools) this year so you should find it quiet at the beginning of June. As others have said, Lake Como is quieter than Garda and it all depend on whether you like large, busy sites on the shores
of Garda or smaller ones on Como. The roads around Lake Como can be narrow and if you have a large caravan you make find it a little tedious. With a 7.5m motorhome we had no problems. If you do go to Garda make a point of visiting Verona (and the Opera).

Hi, in the main Italian pitches can be very small after camping in other parts of Europe, but we found Camping Fornella very good and an excellent family run site. The owners walk around the site every evening and chat to some of the campers. Very friendly.
We used to take a RIB with us and launch it from the beach and spend the day out on rabbit Island with a BBQ, great swimming out there. You can also rent boats down at Moniga.BillC

Hi, We've been to Lake Garda many times. Very popular with the Dutch and German Caravanners and very friendly too. The north of the lake is popular with Windsurfers (like me) and Torbole is the place to stay. Wherever you go, take your bikes! Excellent
cycle ways everywhere. May and June are great times to stay; before it gets manic. Verona is only an hour away by car, so, yes worth a visit.Consider travellling via Holland and Germany into Austria to arrive at Lake Garda or you could go via Mont Blanc Tunnel but the main drag from there via Milan is 4 lane madness. Have a great trip!

Dave. Are you sure about that date? Easter is 27 Mar and Pentecost 15 May and a lot of the sites on Garda are not offering ACSI prices 2nd half of May. Are talking about a different holiday period? JC look at ACSI sites 2930, 2933, 2935 etc for guidance!

Hi JC,Last year we set off at end of May and timed our arrival at Garda for the end of the,I think, Bavarian holidays on 6th June. The roads were very busy but no real hold ups and we went via the Fern & Reisa Passes. There is lots of info on the holidays on line and as many have advised on CT the site pricing gives you a good idea. In the 10 or so visits to Bella Italia we have been unable to get a pitch on arrival twice and that was in May! This is due to it being extremely popular due to accepting the ACSI card and previously Camping Cheques but, due to the high turnover, always got a pitch the next day.The following German holiday dates cover your holiday period but they are from just one source.
