As you say there are so many to choose from - and all prices ranges too.
The most popular sites are on the river South of the town, but an example of a smaller quieter site away from the river is Camping Le Pigeonnier at Tursac, but it's 14 miles north west of Sarlat. About 25 pitches in the heart of the village, with Scottish owners - in case anyone is concerned about language problems. Reviews and website via UKCampsite.co.uk
But there are so many others!

Yes I must agree that the Scots are hard to understand

What sort of site? Do you have children with you? Do you prefer quiet or lively? We like
Le Perpetuum near Domme, which is across the river, but not far as the crow flies (12.5 km driving distance) from Sarlat. It's cheap at 13 euros per night, in June (using the ACSI Card, www.campingcard.co.uk). That covers pitch, car and caravan, two adults,
awning, electricity and one dog (and if you have young children up to three under sixes are included in that price). Nice pool, nice riverside setting, good sanitary facilities, walking distance to bars and restaurants along the river.......... but not to
Domme itself, which is a long uphill walk. You just need the sun, and you'll be in heaven.0 -
FYI we stayed at Indigo Sarlat for two nights last May.The toilets/showers are excellent but the access to pitches is very tight for caravanners. The pitches and the electrics need some TLC .We managed OK with our 6m PVC but some larger caravans arrived
and turned around and left. The site is very steeply sloping with hairpin turns on the access roads..It is only a ten minute walk to town,on the plus side.0 -
I remember when Indigo Sarlat was Les Perieres, and was a popular Canvas Holidays and Eurocamp site. Then new owners took over, and we heard people complaining about their attitude. We even bumped into a bit of a 'protest' in the middle of Sarlat, when a group of families were holding a protest about the site owner's treatment of their children, and then them as families! I have to say that was a very long time ago.
It was dropped from the tour operators, and seemed to go off radar for a time. It's nice to see that it's now back under the 'Indigo' banner, with a complete renovation. We've found Indigo sites generally very 'green' (eco) type sites, and the ones we've stayed at have been very good!

We have stayed at Camping Maisonneuf at Castelnaud la Chappelle on and off since 1972, in June it's quiet which suits us, they are on ACSI which helps, we have the pool virtually to ourselves, just lie there and watch the Red and Black Kites soaring overhead
also Hot Air ballons regularly fly over the site. The site is about 6 miles from Sarlat and the village has what you need without going into Sarlat, not to be missed is the Market in Sarlat held on a Wednesday and SaturdayAdmiral

We stayed at Moulin Du Roch a few years ago. Nice site and we're going back for a week in August this year on our way to Biarritz
We stayed there some years ago. Its a very big site which I would find too busy in August but in May there was hardly anyone else there. However that is the story of so many big sites in France in May.

We've stayed at Moulin du Roch more than once, and in late August when we met friends there a couple of years ago, there were plenty of free pitches down in the bottom 'meadow' which is the area we like. We still managed to book a table in the restaurant
and there were no queues for the shower facilities. The sanitary blocks are good.In late July and early August, as longtimecaravanner suggests, it may be very different.
For us the downside was that the site isn't within walking distance of any bars and restaurants, except a roadside one which wasn't open when we were there.

We have used Camping Aqua Viva twice and enjoyed it, there is a quiet lane adjacent that leads to an old railway line cycle track, at the trout farm next door the owner catches your fish and dispatches it so they dont
come any fresher. Its not a particularly big site and under Dutch management, well run. However our last visit was 2004 and things may be changed
David, it has changed, new owners since 2004 who have installed quite a number of additional Mobile Homes

Not in Sarlat and not an ACSI site, but a lovely quiet site with lots of space in June is
La Cabane in Vezac. For 2 people it's €12, EHU at 6amp €3.20, at 10amp €4.50. We've stayed there regularly for 3 or 4 nights, most recently end of last June, when there were very few
units on and we had all the space we could ask for. Fabulous views of Beynac castle too and a pool, albeit not one with fancy slides etc. Straight next to the river, where hot air balloons take off. About 10 miles from Sarlat I'd say, but would more than
likely be much quieter than Sarlat sites.0
