Route: Le Puy in the Auverne to Rocher/Largentiere
I am converting from dashing 800 miles in a caravan for three weeks holiday, to touring in a motorhome. Our first long trip is to a place called Rocher, just north of Largentiere. We will be going from the tunnel via Rouen, Boussac and Le Puy to get to Rocher on the Western edge of the Rhone Alps. The question is: has anyone driven a motorhome down this last leg from Le Puy to Rocher, and in particular down the D239 and D24. I have done the alternative N102 both solo and towing and know the area is very hilly but are the hairpin bends on this last leg do-able in an 8m motorhome ? I hope someone has done this route and can advise. Thanks in anticipation....

I don't know this specific road, but I have two rules of thumb- the first is take a virtual run down the road using Google Street view, and the second is look on the internet to see if there is a local bus service that runs down that road - if a bus can
do it so can your motorhome!0 -
We've 'done' most of those roads in the 'hinterland of the Ardeche' over many years, but never towing. When towing we prefer to go round via Aubenas or Ales, whichever is nearest to our planned stopover. I can't think of any particular problems, but all
the roads up and down those hills are very winding and there are some very 'small' villages. We regularly tow on to N 102 to Aubenas from Le Puy (or the Le Puy by-pass I should say).I think in terms of time, it will take you just as long to go on the winding roads, rather than around to go via Aubenas the D104 and the D5 and you won't have the worry of thinking 'now what is just around this corner'.
