Can anyone recommend a campsite near Bidart France

Looking to travel to this area June 2015 for 7 to 10 nights and would like a site near the beach (surfing) that any members can recommend. We will be in a caravan (6.5m). It's just the two of us - no children.

    It depends on your budget.

    Le Pavillon Royal is 5 star for €35 a night for the two of you, or bookable with this Club for £25 , but there are others at half the price via the discount schemes.

    Have a look at one of the 'discount schemes' mentioned by Eurotraveller, above, at www.campingcard.co.uk.  They offer sites from 11 to 19 euros per night, for pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning, and electricity.

    Both my sons are surfers, but generally don't go down as far as Bidart.  They like Le Tedey, and Le Grand Pins near Lacanau, and both are in the Camping Card scheme above.  The've been down as far as Hossegor, but much preferred sites and surf further north.  Non-surfing friends liked Le Ruisseau at Bidart, but personally we've never done that area.

    Good luck in finding something.

     The beach at Bidart!

    We stopped at Camping Ur Onea, in Bidart in August 2014. The ACSI rate started on 26 August then and was 16€: it's 17€ in the new book. ACSI ref is 1632.

    It depends on your budget.

    We stayed here some years ago and liked the site. However as EY says it is on the expensive side. Its situated next to the beach with secure access via a gate. Some of the pitches are on the cliff top but the pitches further back are more spacious in my
    view. Biarritz is within walking distance.

    we stayed at Camping Euromardie which is 'officially' St Jean de Luz but only 3 miles or so from Bidart and on the coastal bike route...

    We've also stopped at 'Erromardie' - nice family run site just behind the beach.

    Are you travelling back in time??  Sorry, couldn't resist.

    Like BB and chasncath, we too have stayed at Erromardie and can recommend it there.  Including the cycling mentioned by BB.

    Very steep take off on the waves down there. I remember being beaten black and blue by my board. Not for novices.

    We stayed at Ruisseau, but it was 10 years ago, and remember it as a nice site with good facilities. I think it is now part off the Castells group so prices may be higher but in June you will have plenty of choice. We will be staying in the area for a few days in June at ADs suggested site La Rouletta using ACSI card.

    On the surf, as cyber says it is pretty fierce and often too rough for our grandchildren at the time. We surf at Newquay so not unused to big surf but this was very impressive and very very noisy.

    Even their dad,a 17 stone rugby player, came out like a rag doll at times BUT with a massive grin on his face!

    One day out I could recommend is to go up La Rhune. We used the train which was great fun and the views are fantastic.
