Hi Guys, my family and I are looking to spend 4 nights in Normandy,  mainly to show our 3 young children (11,9 and 4) the historical sites in the area...d day, bayeaux tapestry, pegasus bridge, mount st michel and visiting Hon Fleur also. Any advice on sites
or anything else in the area would be great! I've seen a couple of sites located in grounds of chateuxs which look interesting and could add the the experience! Thanks in advance Matt

It sounds a nice plan, though a bit of a scamper to see all those in four days. Perhaps best to go in and out via the Normandy ferry ports to save the time of driving down from Calais.

For Mont St Michel why not stay at Camping Haliotis at Pontorson, but four days does not seem long enough to do all you plan.

I would go Portsmouth or Poole to Cherbourg

    ah, from the Vendee !

I think with your children, they would like the mechanical elephant which walks in Nantes, the shuttle bus out to Mont St Michel , the Bayeux tapestry,  and then home. And perhaps skip the war cemeteries and military museums till your children are older?

The site at Chateau de Martragny is ideally situated for visits to Bayeux and is not too far from the landing beaches. It is about 30 minutes from the Caen ferry.

I agree about the elephant (and all the other mechanical marvels on the Isle of the Machines) at Nantes. There is a reasonable municipal site in the city which has a tram stop just opposite the entrance to the site.

Nantes is a very pleasant town in its own right.

Stayed at Camping le Colombier near Liseux about 4 years ago. Caen, Honfleur and Bayeux are all within easy reach but Mount St Michel would be difficult.

    Hi atters

we went to Nantes last summer with two little ones , the elephant is a must  see , if you want a ride on a elephant I suggest your pre book , if was fully booked when we got there although there is also a massive three tier carrousel , which is also excellent
if you head to the top the views are stunning and you also get to sit in weird and wonderful machines ! The city and surrounding areas  is full great as it is full of crazy artworks   , my kids loved it  , it you google Nantes tourist board you can access
    all the info.

we stayed at the Nantes city site in the summer , they are  serviced pitches and it's a mix of statics , log cabins tents and caravans , the tram stop as already mentioned is just outside the gates , also a great indoor swimming opp the site , entrance is
included in your site fees .

while in the vendee sorry to throw in a curve ball but have you thought about puy du fou  ? It's a historical theme park ! it sounds totally nuts but check it out it's amazing

when we are staying in bayeux we stay in the municipal , a little dated but a good location to walk in to the city , 10 mins max , they dont take twin wheel caravans On site.

We finally got to Honfleur this November after three attempts , we always give up when the queue seems to start at the  at the motorway junction , lovely little town even on a chilly day  but manic in the summer !
