Eurotunnel
IMO are cashing in on the football Euros, prices for 2016 up by £100 over same dates and train times over 2015 , thinking of a staycation

It is the God of the Market. Goods are not sold for what they are worth but for as much as the seller can get.

We went to France for a month in 2015, mid September to mid October, Eurotunnel fare £165 return. Booked for best part of two months for this year going out early May and returning end of June, fare £165. Both pairs of crossing a similar time. I think Tunnel
prices have started to go up a bit but then so have fery fares on the Dover-Calais route.David

David, 2015 = £205, 2016 = £317 a 54% increase, how can that be justified ?

I can't explain the increases in price but Eurotunnel generally works on the basis that the fuller the Shuttle the higher the fare. Have you tried different combinations of days and times? We rarely travel at weekends so that might be a factor in our prices.

We do not use the tunnel but as DK says you may find that,if it is possible for you, that even minor changes can have a massive effect. We are travelling with Brittany Ferries this year and initially you woud assume that a day crossing would be cheapest, esecially as you will probably want a cabin if travelling overnight.
It actually works out that a Thursday night crossing,at the time we are travelling, including a cabin is almost £270 less than the very next sailing on Friday morning.
As has been said on here many times never assume anything and check and check again to get the best deal for you. In 2015 we used Harwich-Hook as it was the best overall deal based on our destination, Italy, and vists to family and friends en route and a car and van was £158 return.
And on the assumption that you may be Welsh good luck in the footie!

Hi Admiral, Just done a quick costing as we may be using the Harwich route in August. The price includes 7 camping cheques and a cabin each way on the night crossing but shows the price differentials. This also means that it is ever so slightly cheper than in 2015 for a May/June crossing.
As the saying goes you pays yer money etc etc.

Remember green tax of £50 added on in 2015 to ferries and tunnel so if like me you booked Nov 2014 for June 2015 no extra cost .but this year, it shows plus any price rise by ferrie companies or euro tunnel
