Brittany sites
We are planning a trip to Brittany in June. What sites would anyone recommend? We travel in a motorhome and like to use bikes or public transport or walk To places of interest. We like sites with good open views.
A what must visit places would people recommend. We have guide books etc but I often find that we still "miss" some places.

Beverley, I think the second part of your question is more important than the first.
Trip Advisor has a good list of places to see and to visit and things to do in Brittany - historic towns, gardens, beaches, museums, restaurants, islands, walks, cycle routes, and so on. Choose what interests you.
Campsites don't matter all that much, do they? Without a car you will just want the nearest site or aire to the places you want see. Public transport over there won't help you a lot except in and out of the main towns. Enjoy your planning.

We had five weeks in Brittany in 2012 near Sarzeau and Douarnenez. I don't think our sites would appeal to you as there was no public transport or open views but we did get around so where we went might be of interest.

Are you aiming for Finisterre and Morbihan or the east of Brittany?
If the former then my list would go Quimper, Concarneau, Vannes, and then if the weather is good mooch on down the coast to the east of Lorient. No need to book anywhere in June - most sites are open and rarely more than half-full.

we are going to brittany for first time this yr after many years going to other places in france.our site is camping le pointe mile from chateaulin finisterre.small flat site in a valley we have been recomended it.15mins from coast by car.has good website.

Hi Beverley having been to Brittany for the last three years and visisted some nice sites. les Sables Blanc is close to Concarneau you can use your bikes to ride there . Its a lovely town with the old fort which has lots of shops and restaurants. Les Embruns
is another lovelys site this is a 5 star site close to beach and some lovely places to eat as well.If you go out of season then the Acsi Card is ideal . There are so many wonderful sites to choose from.0 -
Our trip this year will be our nineteenth in Brittany. We love it!!
There are masses of wonderful places to visit. Our special favourites are Beg Leguer (near Lannion for the Pink Granite coast) and Camaret (in the far west). Neither of these are especially good for cycling but you could try the municipal site at Pont Augan
near Hennebont. This is alongside the River Blavet with a towpath for miles in each direction.Other lovely places are the municipal site at La Roche Bernard (also alongside the river) and Audierne near the Pointe de Raz which is very spectacular.
There are endless wonderful places in this fantastic area - just stick a pin in the map and you won't be disappointed !!

Motorhomes well catered for, many towns have aires for MH's. 1+ for La Roche Bernard. Spent a lot of time in Brittany, a great place!

On a related note, we are planning a months trip touring to Brittany arriving there 30/8/2016.. We don't wish to book sites so as to give us more freedom.
Would anyone consider booking to be necessary at that time of the year.

No, booking won't be necessary, but pre-planning will, as many French sites close during early September, so you'll need to make sure that there are open sites in the area(s) you plan to visit.
Take a look at the ACSI Card website (www.campingcard.co.uk) for sites in Brittany, then check the opening dates. Apart from the value of the ACSI Card, it's a useful site to check multiple campsites during
one search, and buying the card and guides might just save you money. If you don't find many sites open, then check the Eurocampings tab on the same website, for other sites which don't accept the ACSI Card and have a look at their opening dates.0 -
Dave, I only stress what Val has said about checking Brittany site closing dates in September - and whatever the guide book you are using says, phone ahead to check too.
The municipal sites especially are often the ones which close quickly after the end of the school holidays. Of that group which we visit regularly the municipal site at Plougoulm closes on 4 September and Ste Anne d'Auray on 13 September. Even the big, brash popular,, privately owned holiday camp. camping du Letty, closes on 4 September too.
You will find plenty of others open, do check, but don't bother to book.

Hi beverley, Have stayed at a few sites but,as you have a motorhome,the best would be at St Pol de Leon near Roscoff.
They are Camping Trologot and Ar Kleguer and there is also an Aire right on the waters edge on the road to both sites that has fantastic views. There are restaurants along this road and the town is lovelly and has loads of parking near the supermarket,we often see motorhomes there. We have stayed at both sites using Camping Cheques and believe that they still take them or the ACSI card.
