Fancy visiting Luxembourg / Ardennes with maybe a couple of day trips into Germany what recomendations for sites and places of intrest can members suggest please.

We have stayed at two sites, close to the centre and both were fine. Don’t remember the names but think Kockelschuer was one. Cannot comment on their facilities other than fresh bread each day, as we don’t use them. You could take a bus or cycle to the city
with ease (no idea about parking) buses are cheap, clean & frequent. Free WiFi wherever you roam, it seems. Plenty to see (Catacombs are different) and cheap fuel, too. Plenty of good places to eat.0 -
If you go into Germany from Luxembourg, then I'd certainly visit the Mosel. Although it's been a few years ago now, we used to stay at Camping Bergen (at Bergen/Burgen) about half way between Cochem and Koblenz. Although the site has new owners now, it
was one of the best sites on the Mosel, in my opinion. Ideal for visiting, Cochem, Burg Eltz and a few other interesting castles too. Look out for Gunther wine from Burgen - they used to have a little restaurant too.David

We like Camping De la Sure at Diekirch,No 546 in the Acsi book, its a lovely site right on the river bank, cycle path runs along the river for miles and its an easy walk into town, you can get a train from Diekirch into Luxembourg city, its a 20 min ride.
The site is well placed to visit anywhere in Luxembourg and also Trier on the Mosel, we liked it that much we went back again for another week at the end of our holiday.0 -
I second TGs location but I prefer Camping Grit, a site a little further up river mid way between Diekirch and Ettlebruck. Either site is a good base for seeing the local area and for day trips into the Ardennes and to the Mosel. The area was the scene of fierce fighting in WW2 and the National WW2 museum of Luxembourg (well worth a visit) is in the town of Diekirch with another musuem dedicated to General Patton in Ettlebruck.

Camping Birkelt is a good site, we stayed there in April and also in September. the address is 1 um Birkelt, 7633 Larochette. The site is "perched" above the town and there are foot paths down to the town (small supermarket) but it is a hard climb back.
The site is a Camping Cheque site.0 -

here The first site reviewed with many photo's. Situatation is just 20 minutes into Luxembourg and just under an hour to Bernkastel and more lovely towns on the Mosel. This area of
Germany is the Eifel National Park with many trees and rolling hills. Much prettier than Luxembourg in my opinion info
here Bitburg is the nearest town for shopping etc.,DianneT

Roy and Sharon's story sums it up well. We lived in Luxembourg for nearly 20 years and hosted many family visitors round those very same spots. We went back last year and stayed on Camping Bon Accueil (just missed Roy and Sharon by a week!). Lovely site,
good access to the City but far enough out to get to other places easily. Take a drive up the Mosel and taste Luxembourg's "champagne". Stock up on booze, petrol and coffee (cheapest in Europe). Trier and Bernkastel definitely also worth a visit. And make
time to just sit in the Place d'Armes one evening, sip a wine and just watch the world go by.0 -
Don't forget the Fairy Tale castle at Vianden, also a Luxembourg card is worth getting if going to visit castles and use public transport.
...There are two very good sites at Vianden, both within walking distance of the town. We have stayed at both. Despite being a small country there is a wide variety of scenery. The flat area to the south near the capital. The Ardennes area to the North
West. Little Switzerland in the North east and the area alongside the Mosel River. Each has its own charms. Have a look
