Are there any quiet, clean, smallish sites at the Cabo de Gata area in Almeria, or is that an oxymoron? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Only stayed at the main Cabo de Gata one. It depends what you mean by quiet and when you're going. We went in Feb and site was 75% full but not rowdy so we enjoyed our month there.

Thinking Jan, if at all, but prefer small sites.

Los Escullos is a much quieter site than Cabo de Gata, although still on the large side. We have enjoyed two stays there in early spring.

Quietest in the area is perhaps La Caleta near Las Negras, set in a little valley close to the sea shore.  We have not stayed there, but have looked down on it a few times and it looks good.
A bit isolated for us though, even though we too prefer smaller sites.

Thanks for the info, OAT.  Searching on the internet came across a couple of other sites: Oro Verde, near Tabernas and Cabo de Gata Camperpark, a bit inland from San Jose.  Anyone know either of these?

By the way, motorhomes are not allowed into San Jose!

Cabo de Gata is a National Park and popular with birdwatchers; however, as a motorhomer you may find it difficult to get off site and about without a car.

As ChasnCath say, motorhomes are banned from San Jose, the main town within the park.  However there is a footpath/cycle route from Los Escullos to San Jose along the coast.

I don't know the other two sites, but Tabernas is inland in the desert proper.  Wild arid countryside much akin to Arizona,  The Spaghetti westerns were filmed near there and the film sets are open as visitor centres and are very interesting.
