Camping Cheque changes
I've just received an email from Adele informing me that Camping Cheque and Holiday Cheque are changing their name to
Camping Travel Club. Details for sites for 2016 are on the website. I wonder how much longer paper cheques will be issued for, the emphasis appears very much on the gold and silver cards.
Better use up my left-over cheques in 2016!

I got that e-mail although I have not followed the link to read about the changes yet. First thoughts are that rebranding to Camping Travel Club I am not sure that means a lot to me. Camping Cheques are a very long established brand. If they are going down the route of electronic only I just hope all their campsites have more robust systems than I have experienced in the past.

OH has just logged onto our silver card account using the number on the card. We have 4 cheques left and they are still valid until Dec 2016, we bought them in April 2015, not sure but arn't they valid for 2 calendar years?
We've not had an email

Have just had a look at the website
1st thing I notice is the logo is still the same (camping cheques pennant)
2nd thing I notice is that the price is now €16 which at todays rate is £11.75. However GB price is £14.95 so is still £3.20 more than our foreign neighbours. Then to buy in the UK there is a further £6.50 admin charge making the price even higher.
Why do we have to put up with that? Doesn't the European Union mean we should all pay the same price.

Harry, the official agent selling Camping Cheques in the UK is Alan Rogers Plc. This Club paid a lot of money to buy that company and get the UK selling rights. And perhaps set the UK price? I don't know

I had 2 Cheques remaining which I was saving for our trip across France next month en route to Spain. But now my account shows that they expire at the end of this month. They were supposed to be valid for 2 years and I bought them in May 2014.
WTG, cheques are valid for 2 calendar years, not for 2 years from the date you bought them. So even cheques bought in, say, November 2015 would only be valid until 31 December 2016, ie they are valid for the current year and the next year.

I had the same message but we have never used either of the companies mainly because I've never really understood the attraction of prepaid cheques or cards .
Hi DD, I think that for a lot of people the appeal of Camping Cheques is that if you purchase them with a ferry crossing, direct of via the club, you get a package that on certain ferry routes,on certain days and times, can give substantial savings.
The choice has diminished in recent years but as you now only need to buy three cheques to get a package-ITX- price then it still can work out to be well worth it. My 2016 ferry price, as part of an ITX package, with Brittany Ferries is over £250 less than
booking direct so even if I did I not use the cheques I am still over £200 in pocket.0 -
I have had a very good deal with the club in previuous years, getting 'free' camping cheques with a Hull-Rotterdam crossing, so giving us about a week's free camping. However, I don't think I'd bother buying them, as it restricts your choice of site, obviously.

Yes we've certainly benefited in the past from combining ferry and camping cheques using the Hull crossing, unfortunately for motorhomes there is very little benefit on the Brittany ferries, caravans seem to do better on that on. We still have some cheques left on our silver card from this year but if we need more we add them using the French website it works out cheaper and the admin fee is in euro too.

Have you got details of the French site
www.campingcheque.fr

euroT Thanks for that.
Have just costed 10 cheques from France and UK. By ordering from France the cost is £32 cheaper. Why do we at this side of the channel get charged more. The Camping Cheque site states, "A SINGLE PRICE throughtout Europe of €16".
I think we need to be asking questions of the club, even the admin charge is dearer.

I suppose the answer and only way it will change is for people not to buy them from the UK site. There will be some justification for a difference in price because they are sold in sterling here rather than euros but the differential is far too wide. I also
fail to understand why you have to pay an admin charge plus an additional charge for using a credit card.David

Totally agree David.
If you go into a supermarket or indeed buy online (at say Amazon) and they suggest that the price you pay attracts another £6.50 admin fee I think I would personally tell them to Poke It. YET, I think all of us at one point or another have paid this. BAHH

David, I don’t understand your
“There will be some justification for a difference in price because they are sold in sterling here rather than euros” comment. How can it be justified? If the UK supplier buys them in advance at a lower exchange rate there is bound to be a variation unless they were expected to sell them at a loss. The UK supplier, it seems, has to commit to buying them some
way in advance rather than on demand. Having said that Camping Cheques have never seemed to be as good value as our overseas chums are able to buy them at. If you buy 10 cheques online from the UK supplier your are essentually paying an extra £1 a cheque if
you take into account the admin charge and service charge for using a credit card.David

I posted in another thread the new sites and those which have dropped out in 2016. It's not been viewed by many people, so I'm adding the information here and perhaps that thread can be Deleted User?

Val,
I think this post has took a more important meaning in the changes. It is talking about the changes that have occured since the take over and re naming. It is now talking topically about the costs of cheques and people seem to be more concerned with that at the moment. Personally by copying another post onto this one I feel detracts from the importance of this post.
Would it not have been better to bump the post you mention about cc site changes up to the top.
