Ferry to Sicily
Hi
Does anybody know the best route from Italy to Sicily.
I have a camper and it seems that the fare is approx 6 to 700 Euros return.
Any Ideas

Have a look at www.ferriestosicily.com depends whether you want a long drive first or a long ferry trip. I would love to go, my sister was there not long ago and my daughter has camped over there.
If you post for ideas in the Overseas Section you might find more help available.

I don't know if this blog would be helpful to you but it mentions ferry costs a lot lower than you say in your OP.

Maybe better to wait for a reply from the OP, Sicily would be on my list in the future. I have a Maltese friend who has used the ferries for onward travel to Malta and says they are ok. I wouldn't mind a day trip to Malta from Sicily too, all sorts of ideas spring to mind. People post on here about travel all over the Med islands, it must take some organising, they're more adventurous than me but I like hearing about it.

I too would love to go to Sicily and it is on my to do list. As well as the volcanoes and scenery it is well endowed with Greek and Roman ruins. The OP might get some help from MagBaz travels, who have been a few times and have also overwintered there.
Here is the link to their Italy pages which contain several articles on Sicily..0 -
I take a question at face value and make the assumption, until proven otherwise that someone posting here is serious about what they are asking. If someone is thinking of travelling to Sicily I think we should respect the question, not go off at tangents.
As other posters have said I hope the OP does respond with a bit more information but I for one could understand why they might not want.David

Here are the details for other ferry routes to Sicily, which is mentioned in the above post. It does seem there are much cheaper options available if you don't mind the longer drive down through Italy.

Gino the Italian cook is doing a series on TV just now. He started in Sardinia and last week moved by ferry to Sicily, he is going all round the island along the coast. It looks lovely and as oldagetraveller says has lots of Greek and Roman ruins. The cooking
ain't bad either0 -
I had planned to go to Sicily in January, but have had to cancel. The plan was to pick up the ferry at Genoa at about 10pm for the 21hrs journey. With a cabin for 2 of us the car and caravan was about £500 return. My brother had done the journey 3 times
as he over winters in Sicily in his MH. He says that embarkation and disembarking can be a bit chaotic0 -
I have just come across an article in the November 2015 edition of Practical Motorhome about a couple who took their Bolero 600 to Sicily. You might be able to get hold a copy online. They took the ferry from Villa San Giovanni, just north of Reggio Di Calabria to Messina and they quoted the cost for the ferry as £80.22.which I assume to be the return cost. Obviously you would have to drive down to the toe of Italy for this ferry but its likely a much cheaper option than one of the longer crossings. So really it is cost v distance decision and of course depends on how much time you have. The article was very effusive about their experience.

I met a couple last month in the Costa Brava they did an island hop. Nice to Corsica, then to Sardinia, finally over to Sicily. They then crossed over to southern Italy but not sure which port. It's a long drive down to the bottom of Italy. Just a suggestion!
They went off season, September time. Excellent trip their description. They then crossed over to Dubrovnik.0 -
My sister's been twice to Sicily this year, last visit staying near Syracuse, it looked beautiful and the Autumn temps were warmer than Spain. It is a long drive down to get the shorter ferry, we have extended family living near Naples and the traffic can
be a bit daunting!0 -

Write your comments here...In Sicily now. Ferry for a 3 month ticket is EUR96 incl. taxes. Some people with less time than us have caught the ferry from Genoa to Palermo, obviously more expensive but not so when you addin fuel and time.
People are wonderfully kind and friendly. Scenery is different (mountains, agricultural valleys and rocky or sandy coastline), BUT the driving is beyond anything - so be warned and stay away from entering mountain towns!
