Not that I think it particularly wise to phone while driving, wether hands free or not. However, whilst browsing found this info on a driving in France website.

? ?  NEW driving rules & laws in France:

1. ? ?    PHONING AT THE WHEEL   BEWARE....   HANDS FREE mobile-phone use is banned in France as from July 1st. The new rule applies to all hands-free phones using a headset,
bluetooth or wired. Drivers caught using a mobile phone while on the road in France are liable to an on-the-spot fine of
135 Euros  – and 3 penalty points if they have a French driving licence. Statistics show that phoning
at the wheel increases the risk of accident by a factor of three. The only type of mobile phone now legal to use in France while driving is one that is entirely hands-free and headphone free.

So if I'm reading it right,  if your using one of those in ear headsets you could be fined 135 Euros, but if it's a built into the car set up that would be legal. Whilst I agree with the aim, it seems it's another of these strange French laws that would
be very difficult to inforce. However, could be used against you if it was proved you were on an in ear system following an accident.

That is interesting, but of little relevance to me. I turn my phone off at Dover until my return.

I think the idea is to stop drivers from having bud type ear phones, as they stop all sounds including emergency sirens.
