I collected my new car today and as you do handed the V5 of my previous car to the dealer but retained the V5C/3 slip to send off to the DVLA to confirm change of ownership. Couldn't see anything on the slip about doing it online but thought I would have
a look. It turns out that it can be done online and you get an immediate e-mail response confirming it has been done and no need to send the slip off.

Changed my car on the 1st Sept., handed the V5 to the dealer, he took the change slip and processed it online for me, took less than 5 minutes. I received confirmation back from DVLA  two days later. Also did not need to produce insurance certificate to
tax the new car, as all details are now online. So much more simple and efficient.

Didn't go as easy as that for me. Tried on line but got an alert saying they could not accept this transfer. All in all it took over two weeks.

Write your comments here...maybe there was a problem with the registration on your new vehicle, it has to be in your name and recorded as such, your private plate removed and recorded as so there are also new fees now , you no longer have to pay every time
you change whatever happened I don't think you will have a problem next time you buy a new car Smile ( next year maybe )

Unfortunately Peedee anything that is small enough to tow often does not have enough room or the right seating position for me. The Venga is a quite a clever design I find and suits us as an everyday car. I did check out the weights but as its an auto it
would. no doubt, have to go on a trailer which would take me over my towing allowance. We seem to manage pretty well without a car when we are away as we always use sites near public transport.

Thought you may have gone for something towable. I have just bought a Suzuki Celerio, semi automatic, 4 doors, bags of room and even the handbook explains how to tow it behind a motorhome. Just had it fitted with a Towbars2Tow A-Frame. Nice bit of kit. Got to now decide what to do with my Micra C+C equipped with Car-a-Tow frame. I suppose I really ought to sell it but I am rather fond of it.

Thanks for the heads up on the DVLA

I am also impressed with DVLA and the ease of licensing new cars - however I nearly had a problem with the system since I was away when the reminder of tax due came in.  As it happened I was home in time to renew online.  I used to rely on a reminder from
the disc that it was getting to that time of year!  Clearly need to put it in my diary or iPad for next year - particularly as I enjoy touring at this time of year.  I don't suppose they do email reminders do they?

Just an update, V5 for new car arrived in the post today, not bad as it was only registered on Monday.
