Sometimes people need something to relate to, so that they can understand how big something is.

When filling in ESA and PIP forms for clients (disability benefits) they ask how far they can walk. Often they cannot picture what 100 metres looks like.

I tend to use bus lengths or the length of the street outside our offices as a gauge.

I should add that I don't know how big a footballing pitch is either.......

Find out the size details of a football pitch. Did you know that not all pitches are the same size? The length of a pitch must be between 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards (120m) and the width
not less than 50 yards (45m) and not more than
    100 yards (90m).

I believe the chinese dish measures 500 meters in diameter which is collosal but it does not have the agility of the Jodrell Bank telescope for instance as it has less up and down movement because of its size and therefore cant scan as much of the universe.I think the chinese intend to use it in conjuction with smaller dishes like J/B to form a more accurate picture of space Happy

Many pitches in the football league do differ in size but have a min/max dimension.

I don't know what a football pitch measure is either Sad, wish they would state it as 3500 indoor short bowls mats, it would be a lot easier to comprehend Laughing

Write your comments here... With a decent headwind you would need about four football pitches to land a PA38  ( but the groundsman wouldn't be best pleased )

Double decker buses are a recognised unit of measurement for length, just as Wales and football pitches are for area. If you want height measurements then you have Eiffel towers, although that may come under metric notation being French. Width is generally measured in Jumbo jets. Volume is measured in moons, or for smaller values,  Olympic swimming pools.

Husky - Bugs will probably be along soon to tell you that there is such a thing as the internet and that Google will give you the answer that you require.

    Just saying.....

Would this be Rugby Football or the newer Association thinggy?  I understand there are quite a number of major differences, including the number of combatants.

Even buses are of much different lengths.  I have heard of people being accused of arriving on the "short bus" - whatever that means!

Your certainly two up on me Ian - I have no idea how big a PIP or ESA are either. A football pitch depends upon the amount of ground available and in our local parks and schools that seems to vary considerably.Laughing
