I thought that when they changed the system the idea was that you would only have to update anything if you moved. However, this must be the third time since its introduction that I have been sent a household enquiry form. This lists those registered and
says you must confirm, or you could loose the right to vote. Also failure to respond could result in a fine of £1000. The only difference from the old system seems to be that if you list anybody new on the form, they are not automatically registered, as they
were in the past, but will be contacted. I am not sure why any change was necessary, other than bringing it online.

    We do the confirmation every year, Steve. It's simpler than filling in the form as all you have to do is push a few buttons on the phone.

    I think records would not be updated by some if the onus was on us to tell the Council of changes without being prompted. I can assure you there are many, many people who would welcome the opportunity to hide their whereabouts and mislead authorities for
    less than honest purposes so I see the system as serving a useful purpose.

    Yep same here ,couple of clicks on the computer all done , now someone will tell me they can hack my  computer to get my details SurprisedSad

    Do mine each year on the computer.  You can even tick a box if you do not want all details given out to third parties, hence less crap through the post and online

    Doesn't stop your info being sold on though TB albeit not quite as much.

    Try 192.com and see info they have sold to them. You have to pay for the main part but just the Google listing contains more info than I want to be out in the either for anyone to see (or use)

    Our council has an automated phone line to confirm the contents of the letter are correct. Only takes about 30 seconds to do.

    Do it every year. Rarely does me any good mind, I think I've only voted for a winning candidate/campaign in 40 odd years of voting!! Sad
