Got back from two weeks in the West Country today, Chippenham, Minehead, Brixham and Moreton near Dorchester. Been to Minehead and Brixham before but some years ago, could be my imagination both seem more run down than before?
Decided to wash the motorhome when we got back, now can hardly move!!!

Just finished polishing the front of the van. Just the sides left to do now.
I hope you remembered to do the roof first CY.
Always start at the top and work down. At least it will look shiny if I end up having to sell it.

I think Minehead has always been a bit tacky but has it's good bits, Brixham has been in a decline for years but still interesting to see, nice up on the top near Berry Head. Hope you both enjoyed your trip down here, will look out for your blog!

Being kept busy with repairs at the Guide Hall and DD's (rented out) flat.
DD rang on Tuesday afternoon to relate that tenant had reported no hot water, so asked me to go and check they were operating boiler correctly before she called anyone out.
Turned out there was no boiler problem, plenty of hot water, but none from the shower.
Removed bath shower mixer and brought it home to clean out but nothing obvious wrong with it. Tenant also reported broken shower hose, broken entrance door security lock, and rowdy/drunken student neighbours accessing building at will.
Have today bought new hose and on my second visit found that there is hot water to the shower but mixer is not mixing it, new thermostatic cartridge now ordered. Just hope that fixes it.
This afternoon I have spent quite a while at the Guide Hall, up a very tall ladder, trying to get to grips with a non-working strip light, so I can order a new electronic starter.
OH is busy altering curtains for D I L, she does not sew! 2 pairs sorted, one to go.

Today I've been feeling nostalgic. I had to find some old photos (to do with a 70th Birthday cake), so I looked in a box that has sat unopened fo 20 years. I found at least one useable photo - but more interesting some programmes from past concerts. Those were the days when bands produced big glossy programmes (maybe they still do, and I've not been going to the right gigs).I always try to buy something from the Merch stall, especially if the artist is there to talk to. On Monday I bought a hat, 2 CD's and a tote bag to put them in. I'm easy to please!.
But nothing like these -
And here's one of the photos I found. I'm in the navigator's seat.
Those were the days . . .

SELL, we were discussing the stop-start on the the Volvos, but I can't find our posts so here's the update. With our XC60 Auto the stop-start is
disabled when we tow with it, which is different from yours from what I remember, so I don't have to maually switch it off when towing.Nellie think it was in the stop/start thread mine works when towing but i have not bothered to to switch it off. wonder if the manual / auto versions make a difference. Did you get in touch with your dealer to try and sort a manual out.
I've got one on-line as well as the one in the on-board computer in the car. Thanks for asking. I've not yet tried switching it off when solo.

Oooo Helen - how exciting! Which one? We have looked at the 8' wide caravans. Much too much trouble to manouver around. We don't need one that wide either. Not that we are looking for a new caravan. We are more than happy with ours.
After much deliberation we chose the Affinity 554. Just got the 6 month wait for delivery.
Congratuations H&T, just a pity you have to wait so long for it's delivery. We know what a pain waiting for a new vehicle is like. How close to home is your dealer?
The dealer is only about 15 miles from home so not far, although we have an independent guy who has looked after all our vans and he is closer. We checked with him first to make sure he would be able to do any work required.
The dealers who are selling the van offer their customer 2 free nights on their own caravan park, so we can also make use of that and make sure everything works!

Had a hectic day yesterday, busy at work and also had to get into town for a hair appointment, had forgotten that it's our Michaelmas Fair so had to walk through all the rides! Must get organised for the trip to Cornwall now.
Thanks for the update on the Miners David, it's always handy to know of a dog friendly pub in a new area, will remember to book a table beforehand now.

Our 21 nights here at Northbrook Farm end on 2nd November, so we've booked to stay two nights at Littlehampton Caravan Site and then back here at Northbrook Farm for the last three nights of our seasonal pitch before it closes on 7th November. Then back
to Littlehampton Club site for 2 nights before heading off to Derbyshire.0 -

Dry and fairly bright today, still a little chilly but I think it will warm up a bit. Tested my back out yesterday and it seems to be almost back to normal so I'm going to go and tidy the garden up for a couple of hours. OH is outside giving his car (was
Sons) a good clean inside and out, then its onto the M/H it needs a good wash, if he has time and any energy left ( I doubt it) he will give my car a wash.Went up to Mum's care home yesterday with big Sis to have a look at the Dementia unit and was pleasantly suprised its lovely lots of things to do up on that floor and more staff, I think Mum will be fine we've
seen the room that she will be in and like her current one it over looks the garden but at a higher level so she gets a great view out over the garden to the hills beyond. Its been re-decorated and they are waiting for a new carpet to go down then she can
move in. Feeling much more positive about it now.0 -
So glad you are feeling happier about moving your Mum to another unit in her carehome Tammygirl. My sister and I were going through all these scenarios a couple of years ago with our Mum. Very difficult time for you and I wish you well. It sounds a lovely
caring place so you can't do more than that for her.0 -
Pleased to hear you are feeling better about the care unit after having a look round Tammygirl, hope you Mum settles in.

I echo that TG. Such a difficult decision for your and your sister to make but I am glad you feel happier about it now. It sounds as though they are putting a lot of effort into making her room a nice home for your Mum. I hope she settles well.

Best of luck, TG, having been there ourselves a few years ago.
Spent a lovely morning on a nature reserve just wandering and letting the stresses of life seep out. Feel quite chilled now. Mrs.WN and myself were talking about next years ventures and feel that we will be giving the UK our full attention. So the coming
months will be spent whittling the scenarios down. How are others planning to spend next year? New adventures or comforting returns?

Will probably go to Germany at Easter as its slightly later next year.
May well do an East West trip in the Summer, crossing across to North Wales down the coast to Pembroke then back up via Gloucestershire. Course that could all change!

We shall certainly do some comforting returns but might well try some new places as well. All yet to be decided.

Finally finished the polishing of the van. I suppose that will be the signal for the local pigeons.

We had a cream tea in the awning this afternoon whilst the sun was shining. The sun came through the front window of the awning so that it was nice and warm without being too hot! Now we're out on a delivery and having to contend with rush hour traffic!

Many thanks for all your good wishes regarding Mum.
Been busy in the garden today and helped OH finish off the M/H and car washing. Totally shattered now so having a 'chippy' tea don't often do it but needs must
Where are we going next year some comfort visits in the sun and
some visits to pastures new, might give Austria/Italy/Croatia a look in the Spring been a very long time since we've been there. Autumn will hopefully be France then Spain until December.Phew! that was a quick year

Same from me too, TG. Glad to hear that you too are feeling better in yourself.

Haven't made any real plans yet, but there will be a trip to North Yorkshire during the year, as not been up that way for a few years.

Not yet finished for this year yet, as you well know. Still a few weeks left on this trip and they're not all booked yet!! Then there's the December/ January trip to suss out before we start thinking about next year proper. Could well be coming down the
west side of the Pennines for a change.Lots of places on these islands we've not yet visited, believe it or not, so we'll be looking for some new sites as well as some favourites.
