It's still busy here down on the farm. When our son arranged his week off (mainly dictated by two days volunteering at Countryfile Live and a day judging at Oswestry Show), I'm sure he said "nothing much will calve . . ". Since Sunday six cows have calved
(three today) and I can hear another bellowing now.

But tonight, as long as OH is done in time, we're going out! We won't completly escape farming, as it's to a Barbecue run by our Vet practice. Looking at the most recent bill I think we should make sure we eat and drink plenty.

Write your comments here...Hope it's not his mistakes he's cooking!Surprised

Yes, me too, hope they do a good spread, make the most of it!

Nothing exciting to report here, a week of work thanks to the builder being ill and a dead line for Monday when new windows and doors arrive for an outside store. Much chipping and bashing at concrete blocks to get the openings right. Dust everywhere, extra
dog running around, chaos reigns! (Don't feel as though we've just had a holiday...Wink)

I've just been busy clicking and spending - on tickets for two gigs at our local
Arts Centre. Before I book I have to check I'm not double booking. I seem to have been busy over the past few months - we're now going to 9 gigs in 9 weeks this autumn. Mostly Folk (of one sort or
another), but I'm most excited about seeing
    The Divine Comedy.
We have to travel Gateshead for that one. If you don't them - look them up on
    YouTube.

Sorry - rather a lot of links here

I have just booked tickets for a family outing to The Winter Lights at Angelsey Abbey in December.  We have been twice before and it is absolutely amazing.

Write your comments here...The boss takes a different view. He says I need to grow up and not expect time off and accept my responsibility for customer service. He says he works seven days a week and never has a holiday and that I should be following this
    example.

I'm nearly 65 years old. If I haven't grown up by now, I never will!

I'd tell him to get stuffed and take whatever time you want off. If you cannot see the sense of it, at least have a thought for Mrs Mehta.

As said - treat it as a 'reaching state pension age' present to yourself.

Either you are self employed (you aren't) and can take whatever time off you like......or you are employed and entitled to 28 days
    paid holidays per year.

Tell him to sort himself out or you will report him to the HMRC Minimum Pay unit.

Managed to get a few jobs done today (no rain) 2 loads of washing, trellis painted, deck stained. Big clear out of storage containers on top shelf of wardrobes, full of lots of bits and pieces that OH keeps 'just incase' now all in bin Surprised Back
to bed shop this afternoon to order beds and mattresses rather than a king bed we have 2 singles put together, we've had this setup for years now and find it works better for us as OH is very restless and I'm a very light sleeper, this way he can toss and
turn as much as he likes (on his side) and I don't feel a thing Smile we tried all the main bed shops but ended up back at the independant bed
shop that we have used before. Much better service and price, great choice (not just leading brands) its getting harder and harder to find independant shops, opposed to the chain stores.

We bought our bed in a sale from the bed shop that used to be in Keswick 'And So To Bed'. Unfortunately they closed some years ago.

It's a brass framed bed with slightly bendy wood slats as the base, supporting the thickest mattress I've ever seen, with a layer of memory foam.

    It's the most comfortable bed......ever!

We looked at the beds in there every time we went to Keswick and always said 'One day.......'

You should never decry those items, only yesterday I used some wax, in block form,  that my father had in his 'just in case' box which saved me at least 50p and did a good job. Well done Dad!

OH has a shed full of boxes of stuff for just incase aswell, he is trying to wean himself off collecting any and everything. The box full in the house was things like old mobile phones, sim cards, chargers for things he doesn't have anymore, electronic hand
held games years old and loads of old army bits and bobs. I wasn't allowed to throw anything away, each and every little bit was checked just incaseWink
I'll give him time to recover and then I'm starting on the attic Surprised note to self 'have a good stiff drink ready for him' WinkLaughing

I never throw anything away either, if I do I always find a few weeks later that I really needed it!

Not a bad day today, sunny off and on, a nice breeze and not too hot.  Have now treated almost all the balcony rails with teak oil, very easy to apply.  They will need 2 or 3 coats, but OH does the house facing side while I go between scaffold tower and ladder to do the outside.  Just have the ends to do as that means major repositioning of the ladder. Still plenty of windows etc to finish too.

Have ordered Hammerite to do the metal uprights that support the rails.

Forecast bad for the weekend, so no more outside work meantime.  Going to sort a small plumbing job for DD, and get some essential caravanning bits, we have a jockey wheel problem

3 mates 2 cleared off before st John's arrived. Ended well, and we had heavily discounted lunch as thank you.  Off with friends this evening for a Turkish.  Keep warm stay safe and enjoy your day.

Ps malcolm you REALLY do need to take seriously the advice you're given on here.  I know it falls on deaf ears but please ............

I'm going to have to pay a visit to the CAB anyway, as I can't access the online tax form. I tried all the links that I received from HMRC but none of them work.

I think it will probably have to be week after next because today we plan to take the sides and front of the awning down in readiness for our two nights away from Monday to Wednesday. Tomorrow, we'll complete the dismantling of the awning. Then Monday morning will be spent putting the tent up at the CS. Wednesday morning will be time to pack the tent away and get back to the caravan.

Thursday, the car is booked in for a service and we'll also have to make time for unpacking when we arrive back at the caravan after the two nights camping. It's all go!

It's interesting to look round the new vans when we take our's for servicing, but we haven't seen anything we like better yet.

However my wallet will be safe today as we are only going to the Caravan Shop in Glasgow.  He has a fantastic stock of "bits" , but does not actually sell caravans.

The inside of the main shop does not actually look as big as the inside of our caravan!

The problem is not the wheel itself but the attachment of it to the van, so a bit of a hassle to get to and fix, going to have to cut the A frame cover to get it off I reckon, then bolt on a new wheel clamp.

Malcolm, I thought your van was fairly new?

We watched a bit of BBC breakfast tv this morning, all about the opening ceremony of the Olympics. We saw one hour of it last night after getting back from work. It was quite spectacular but the need for sleep eventually got the better of me.

Yes, it was on rather late, we just waited up till we saw Andy carrying the flag.

Today is sunny after all, so really we should be working on the house, but have promised DD to come down to deal with her plumbing under the kitchen sink.  She needs a "new" waste disposal unit fitted (it's actually our old one but is better than hers),
plus she wants to borrow my printer.

What a beautiful day to be on holiday enjoying yourself. Unfortunately, I'm not on holiday! Those that are, I hope you are having a good time and remembering to use that sun factor cream you bought in the sales in November.

Up early today to start on the weatherproofing of the fencing panels. Back for more tomorrow, glutton that I am.

Today started out nice and bright, sunny spells with light cloud. Picked Mum up for her day with us, she is walking much better now and not so dependant on the walking frame. OH did some work outside on the back decking while I gave the side decking a second
coat of stain, Mum had a good time watching us workWink Eldest son rang to see if we want to meet up and go out for a meal tonight, they have been
up here on holiday this week and they are going back down the road tomorrow. Perfect timing as I was just thinking about what we were going to have to eat tonight. Rain has now set in so one of our neighbours isn't going to be happy as they are celebrating
his wifes 50th birthday tonight and was planning a party outsideFrown
