Here are some suggestions for you Malcolm, which I'm pretty sure you will ignore anyway! Undecided

Change your garage, sounds like a rip off to me, unless you're driving a Roller!

Check online for tyres, pretty sure that you can find them cheaper than £150 each!

The time you save using your contactless card against Chip & Pin must be wasted by returning to the garage every day, a matter of seconds difference to my mind.

Turned out to be a lovely day after waking up to rain first thing.  Rode the bikes through the woods,  lots of red Kites about today in the sunshine.  Have noticed this time that the woods have been much quieter than usual, far less families out and about.

It was quiet there too after the weekend, when we were there towards the end of May. While you were cycling round did you notice how much of the forest has been open up? Very different from the last time we visited.

Yes, they have been clearing areas,  although not much more since we were here in August last year. They are digging up the courtyard area in front of the cafe and cycle shop, which may be keeping visitors away. Undecided Site
only half full tonight, although warden said they are expecting a few in tomorrow.

Write your comments here...Good morning, Yertiz. After 12th July, I'll stop using my contactless debit card because of the increase to my credit limit on my credit card. This means I can use my credit card chip and pin to pay all my outgoings. The entire balance gets paid off by direct debit on the due date so that it costs me nothing in interest payments whilst in the meantime funds can accumulate in my bank account because of not having to use my debit card. My credit card is not contactless so I'll have to use chip and pin anyway. So what you suggested is already in the pipeline! I can then fill the tank full each time.

Our car was serviced last year by a Mitsubishi dealer as it's a Mitsubishi Shogun. After six months, we did try the interim service and MOT through the local Halfords. The bill came to the same. So I didn't get any better deal than previously. I think the problem is that the car is getting older and the cost of the parts that need replacing is huge.

Normal tyres may well be cheaper but our car needs off road tyres that can cope with winter conditions of towing across muddy and sometimes flooded fields. They have much stronger grip so that we won't get stuck with the wheels spinning in the mud when trying to get off the field to get to work.

If I have the wrong tyres and get stuck in a field and need help, this will take time and I will lose earnings. So I think it's better in our circumstances to have the type of tyres that can do the job!

Having said that, there is a downside to off road tyres in that when you use them on tarmaced roads there is a lot of frictional noise or so I'm told by the tyre dealer. So I guess I'll just have to put up with that!

And how many times has this happened??

A "stealer" main agent will charge top dollar and I wouldn't trust my car at a Halfrauds either! but that's just me.

Surely, thre are some independent garages in the area? Trusted traders may be a way to go? There will be cheaper / better options, you just need to do a bit of research Wink

Write your comments here...It has happened before, right here on the club site in Northbrook Farm, this Easter, during Storm Katie. The car had to be towed off with a tractor and I was delayed getting to work.

So that'll be once then! Hardly justifies the extra expense of off road tyres, eh?

Write your comments here...That's because last winter I alternated between Brighton CC site and Gatwick CC site both of which were hard standing pitches. However, we found the daily commute too lengthy and time consuming as well as costly in fuel to be able to manage it again this winter. So we plan to stay at the Charmill Cottage CS in Long Furlong, Findon which is only 5 miles commute from Worthing town centre but open all year. We'll be pitched on grass there where we will definitely get stuck without off road tyres.

We will also be using storm straps and guy ropes to hold the awning down in stormy weather. Last winter we had to live through ten storms, snow and ice, floods, high winds etc. So this winter we are determined to be prepared for the worst of the weather conditions.

I thought it was a Shogun you drove? Can't see how one of those can get stuck? Must be the driver! Wink

Of course, with a bit of planning and preparation you could park in the car park when a storm is forecast?

Any 4X4 is only as good as it's tyres. On tv the other night they were showing pictures of Glastonbury and there was a Discovery towing a caravan with all four wheels spinning. Not the sort of conditions you would expect on a "normal" campsite but I have
seen it on rally fields where the ground was very wet.

Well, must get on, I've got to do the ironing as the wifes not well.

Write your comments here...I had the wrong tyres for off road use and it did happen that all four wheels spun in the mud. There is no car park on the CS we'll be staying on in the winter. Just a grass field surrounded by hills.

It's in an area of outstanding natural beauty so the site owner might have difficulty in getting planning permission for a car park!

Hmm. must have good tyres on my XTrail as bad weather has never caused me any issues? Mind you, I don't have the lifestyle that Malcolm and his wife have, thank goodness.

PS, hope your wife gets better soon and that the ironing is all done!!  Winking

Dont off road tyres increase fuel consumption when used on normal roads?

Ok we've had 4 votes so far to keep this one open, I'll close the other one (sorry ABM...Sealed).

Just a friendly reminder while I'm here, please make sure to not post too much personal information on Club Together – as much as we strive to make CT a safe place, there can be trolls out there.

    Have a nice evening everyone

This was posted by the community manager a couple of weeks ago and received good support from other posters. It would be nice to see this thread continue as a general thread without anyone in particular posting too many personal details as was sensibly suggested and also being aware of trolling.

Sorry to disappoint you jvb,  but they are not doing anything to the access road, they are putting in new electric cables in the courtyard area only. The contractors were working there this morning.

Doubt that they will do that until a decision is made concerning the possibility of them erecting cabins in the forest, which is being opposed by the residents and many others.
