    Malcolm

If Just Eat and Starship Technologies have their way you might be looking for a different type of job soon. Here in MK they plan to test self driving robots to deliver take away food orders.

    David

That sounds like a good reason to stay out of MK David. I can just see the insurance claim. "I was broadsided by a robotic Pizza at 20mph"

    Steve

I think the pizza is likely to do you more harm than the robot!!! We are awaiting the introduction of driverless pods which will ferry people from the railways station to CMK. Fortunately we have a lot of space around us so there should be no need to worry.

    David

...The guided bus way in Cambridge that was well over budget when built is not able to keep buses on it, let alone having driverless vehicles on the real roadsSurprised

5 deliveries so far today. Received activation code from HMRC giving me access to do self-assessment tax returns online. Received email confirmation that the code is now successfully activated. So it's all set up but I still need to learn how to do a self-assessment
online. When I entered the site all it said was how to get PAYE. I couldn't find the link to self-assessment.

Next big thing to tackle is Auto Enrolement for employees pensions!

12 deliveries done yesterday and £50.50 earned in delivery fees. Actual time spent on deliveries was one hour in the afternoon and four hours in the evening. So that works out to over £10 per hour. The rest of the time we were at home in our caravan.

I think I'm sorted - but we only have one employee (who will be 65 in August). I'm using NEST.

Well, if you want to count being on call for hours on end, not being allowed to go anywhere, plan anything or have a normal life of your own as not working.......in order to kid yourself that you are being paid a legal wage by your employer.......then fine.

But you are being exploited and taken for an idiot......sorry if the truth hurts Malcom.

(Incidently, even by your own hopelessly optimistic reckoning, that's £5 per hour, because there are two of you doing the job)

Write your comments here...Yes, I agree it would be nice to have time off to visit other places. We used to get the day off on Thursdays but not anymore, since the other driver left. However, that does mean we're getting double the amount of deliveries each day and double the earnings to go with it and so it's better in that way.

When I worked for Dominos, they paid the minimum wage but kept cutting the number of hours worked. Yes it meant there was time in the day to go out and visit places but much lower earnings. Not much point in having time off to go out if you have no money to spend! Even if you visit free places, you need to spend some money to buy the fuel to get there!

Write your comments here...The boss did say to us yesterday that he's going to try to arrange for us to have two half days off per week. If he gives us two afternoons off then we'll be free from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. without being on call. This will give us time
    to visit other places.

Write your comments here...We do get some tips but a lot of people pay online or by card. We usually just get tips on the cash orders.

Not too busy today. We've done six deliveries so far and as there have been no more orders, we're back at the caravan to watch a nice sunset from our front window. Just one more hour to go and we'll have finished work for today. We have a chicken casserole
cooking in the slow cooker for our evening meal tonight.

After a few afternoon deliveries, it went quiet for a while and then at 6.15 p.m. it suddenly went manic with three orders at once. Then non-stop ever since. Doing a Macdonalds order at the moment.

Just finished doing one Macdonalds delivery and now another one. Macdonalds seem to be the in thing with our customers this evening.

Just finished the last Macdonalds delivery. No more orders come through. So it looks like we've finished for today. So back to our caravan soon where our dinner is still cooking in the slow cooker. I'm feeling hungry at the thought of it!
