Anthem for the English ?

Can't see why you think that England would adopt a foreign anthem as their own.
Tha OP didn't suggest a rousing anthem , that suggestion was in the last three posts. These sort of posts tend to lead to silly comments which in turn take a post off topic.....

No-one suggested adopting a foreign anthem. Examples were quoted of foreign anthems which are "rousing" simply for illustration purposes.
As for the rest of your post above - interesting view you have there, but my experience has been that "silly comments" seldom require a catalyst other than the people making them and a few chums..
Anyway - back to the topic in hand. Personally, I'm not keen on any of the "usual suspects" being suggested as possible anthems. I would like to see consideration of a brand new tune which would have the benefit of having no historical or organisational links.

Doesn't have to be new music for me, just something that truly raises the spirits. Someone somewhere will be gifted enough to add new words of an appropriate nature to a decent tune. (In the past, lots of hymns were conceived and changed in this way.) Don't
think it should be a hymn though, needs to be more up to date. Most of the use will be at sporting events, so something a good crowd can belt out would be best.0 -
You want something that makes the hair on you neck stand up which is why "Land of Hope and Glory" has my endorsement and for the avoidance of doubt is the equal of "Austria" ( Never quite understood why it's the German anthem)

I have the BBC news app on my iPad when glancing through a few days ago there was a brilliant article regarding the anthem for England It gave an excellent insight on all the songs that have been mentioned on here and why they would not be right.
they explain in detail the meaning of each verse ect in each of the short listed song / hymns and why it could offend and so on besides them having no longer any real meaning to England as it is now not a century ago, for these reasons it seems that it may
be best for a new song / hymn anthem be composed0 -
I'm sorry but far too many Brave men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice in its, and our Countries defence, for us to just to dismiss our National Anthem as irrelavent. So I for one will never accept any replacement for our National Anthem.
I regret but I regard any such proposal as nothing less than treachery to the memory of such brave souls, be they English Welsh or Scottish or serving under any of the flags of our Commonwealth Nations. I am ashamed that such a proposal might have been made,, and discussed with such levity!
God save the Queen!

They are not changing the National Athem , God Save The Queen. It's an anthem for The English for sporting events nobody intends changing the National Anthem that we all sing and respect at international levels such as G B teams

I think that you have missed the point TF? No-one is suggesting that we dump 'God Save the Queen' as the BRITISH National anthem just to have an additional anthem for England as we have in Wales, Scotland and Ireland!

I think that I do now understand your point, but apart from internal to Britain games dont quite understand when it would be used? What other Countries uses such regional anthems? If a German team came over here would they use for example an East German
anthem if it applied or the French a Basque one? The Australians A Northern Territories one?Or is it just another silly game, in which case How about "Where be that Blackbird be?" a nice Somerset one!

Lots of athletes competing in there own individual / team all over the world , Welsh , Scottish , Irish , sing their own anthems across the world. Only when teams are competing as Great Britain do they then sing the Natioal Anthem
, so I think it's only fair the English have there's ,so how about.Always look on the bright side of life
