Hi Jenny, we recommend MayDay to all of our Members. You can find more information here http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/insurance/uk-breakdown-and-recovery. Tracy

As said, check VERY carefully in the tiny print that any organisation provides the cover you need. It depends on the price you want to pay and how much effort you want to put in to your camparison.
If you want to go abroad then you will also need to check carefully as Mayday only covers UK trips whereas other companies (e.g. Brittania) can extend this to Europe.
Also Safeguard caravan insurance do a bolt on CARAVAN and car (NOT car with caravan attached) cover which, as a package is the best we have found for our circumstances and needs.
In all of this, you do need to be prepared to read the details unless you just go with perceived wisdom and buy Club products.

Thanks for the advise, I will only be touring in UK I'm not brave enough to take the caravan over to Europe on my own. I have looked at Mayday ( Greenflag) and just might buy.
If you do go that way you should get a Free Night Voucher as an introductory offer, which could be worth £30+ depending on choise of site, date of visit & number in your party.

I have just had to call out the RAC to the CL I am at. Something electrical discharged the battery to 3v in just 2 hours!
I was going to move the car to hitch up position as I think tomorrow will be a wet start! They were with me in just under 30 mins and hopefully recharged. Fingers crossed for starting tomorrow but I can think of worse places to be stranded! Thank you RAC.0 -
After comparing the options, went with RAC Arrivals from t'other club as was an annual package for the car and significantly cheaper.
I've yet to read a bad review of Red Pennant but to me it was the price which was off-putting and Arrivals offers me everything I needed.
Of course the proof will be if I need it!!!
AS others have said - check van length carfelly with other companies to check you're ok.

Good point! Sorry missed that

No worries its made me look at the other clubs RAC Arrivals compared to my Mayday Green Flag.
We have RAC Arrival, Dave. Couldn't fault them when we needed them - including being carried home from Scotland.
They are amenable to negotiations re premiums. I ring them every year and they willingly reduce the cost of the premium.

I had a quick glance 'Tinny', perhaps a more indepth comparison when renewal nears in Feb. At the moment its two cars plus caravan plus homestart, in fact the full package for £124 with Mayday.

Ours is personal based which gives both of us cover in any car, whether as driver or passenger, plus homestart and the usual roadside assistance and carriage of cvan/MH with no weight or length limit. The price started at £197
this year but I easily haggled it down to £116.Sometimes you can get an offer on joining of a free year's membership of C&CC.

We have Mayday too. As well as the information other have given, if you have personal cover you are covered in any car, even if you are a pasender. I was with my son once. His car broke down and as I was in the car, his car was recovered.

We have used Mayday twice and it was faultless so tend to stick with them. The RAC cover with C&CC was more expensive and I see no reason to have to haggle to get what I have already.
It might be slightly more expensive but like Mayday it covers any size of vehicle and if you tour on the Continent it can work out very much cheaper for the larger vehicle when you add the European Cover option. As an RAC member, you also get free call outs
for punctures, invaluable if you don't normally carry a spare wheel.peedee

Don't you query the renewal price on all insurance policies, WW? I do it regularly and it's rare not to get a reduction for the sake of a phone call. The days of paying up without question are long gone.

I already get 20% discount as a retired employee on most policies but have rung to query theprice from time to time. The premium on Mayday though is too low to negotiate. I do not see the point of having to argue with the higher quote just to get it down
to the level of thec lower one though.0 -
As with any insurance it is the quality of cover when you need it that matters the most, I for instance have stuck with my AXA car insurance despite getting cheaper quotes online. When I have spoken to them they have always managed to lower my renewal a
bit but not match the others but they have tried and I know this about them. When I needed them a few years ago (not my fault someone reversed into my car) they performed faultlessly. Appraised my damage, (I could still use the car) a man turned up with a courtesy car on a beaver tail on a pre arranged day, took my car away, 4 days
later my car was returned and that was that all sorted from 1 phone call. Not breakdown insurance but the point is it is worth paying 50 quid more for something I hope I won’t need but I know will work if it has to.
I am with Mayday for my breakdown cover it might be possible to get something cheaper but not by much, I 100% know if me or Bev breakdown in our motor home or car or someone else’s car and caravan there motor home or car Mayday will come to us and either
get it going, get us to somewhere that can get us going or take us home.I can’t say I ever remember seeing on a forum here someone with a bad word to say about Mayday and Mayday know the power of a forum like this to get a bad reputation if not delivering the service promised
So far I have never needed to call them and I hope I never will so I honestly hope I am throwing that money down the drain but if I do need them they will be there.
I suppose my point is sometimes you do get what you pay for even if you don’t use it and hope you will never need to but if you need it, well you dam well need it to do the job and do it well
Just my thought and of course I might be wrong

Hi there hope I am not hijacking someone ,I have a swift corniche 19/4 but shipping length 7.2m I am looking for breakdown cover for U.K. And Europe and seem to be struggling because of length it only a single axel any advice would be appreciated

Have a look at a Nationwide flex plus account, it covers
Caravans and trailers - 8 metres in length (including A-frame) U.K. and European cover, it cost £10 per month but you get 3% on balances upto £2500 so it works out less than £4-00 per month if you get the maximum back. Also gives other benefits, well worth
a look at their website for full details and exceptions of course0 -
Hi phoned AA today they said 7m is the max shipping length,do adac still cover British nationals
I would suggest Brittania (although they used to cover our 7.3 m single axle, I can't find the policy details on their website) OR try Safeguard (we have this cover) who have a bolt on CARAVAN breakdown cover which also covers the car (via AA) if you also need caravan insurance. OR I'm certain Diane will supply exact details of how to contact ADAC if you decide you want to go that route. It IS a minefield so check that the cover is exactly what you need at a price you want to pay.
Some but not all key points are cover for a CARAVAN breakdown, cover if the caravan and car are not connected (e.g. you are out for the day in the car and have a serious car breakdown or accident which necessitates repatriation) Make sure they will also get the van. Remember, repatriation is their decision not yours and you would have to pay for repair work over the cover that is within the policy (they will tow and deliver spares to wherever you are), I think.....
