Are there any decent cheap dustbusters

I used to have "dustbusters" to clean my car when I was younger but they were next to useless.  I wondered if 20 years later there are any decent ones out there which won't break the bank.

Having a dog we are in and out the caravan  regularly whatever the weather.  It would be great to have something that we could either take away or take up to storage easily to clean up the dry mud that gets trailed in (on a postive he doesn't shed hair).
Does anyone have a recommendation which they have been happy with.

Hi Tracey, when you say cheap what sort of price?  The reason I ask is that I do have a fantasitc recommendation and I don't consider it expensive when I take into account the results.  It's an AEG handheld with rotating brush head, hose and nozle so there
    isn't anything it can't do.

I was thinking about £40...I'm between jobs at the minute so trying to economise.  However, if you cannot get anything decent for this I would rather save my money and get something better when I'm working.

For  pure  efficiency  there's  always  a  darn  good  stiff handbrush  &  dustpan,  1T1,  should  clean  up  as  well  as  anything,  always,  of  course,  assuming  you  can  spend  the  time  on  your  knees !!  Hope  you  soon  get  back  into  harness
&  you  can  afford  that  top of the range  Dyson ==  You  know  the  one,  its  got  solid  gold  tubes  on  it

Thank you Catherine.  It also has good reviews from the John Lewis website.  However, am I correct in thinking I would need to be on EHU and have this plugged in?  Ideally we were looking for something we could charge, however, will keep this in mind as
an alternative if there are no recommendations for cordless.Happy

I borrowed mil's cordless dyson and it was pointless!!  We use a mini vac from Lakeland which was about 40 pounds... I also use it to vac pac the bedding etc before we put the van into storage so it keeps everything clean and dry and dust free while the van is in storage

The time to worry about dust is when the doors jam on it when you open them. Wink

We used to take a little dirt devil cleaner with us, it was very good but took up much needed storgae space. So back to dustpan and brush and mini Bissell carpet sweeper (which does a good job!) Plus a good clean out when we get home.Smile

We have the Dyson cordless. It works well but is very expensive and the battery doesn't last very long. One characteristic of lithium batteries is that when the charge runs out they just suddenly stop with no warning. We took ours away with us but soon reverted
to dustpan and brush. Occasionally on a long trip we take the carpets out and give them a good shake and beat.

As you can tell, I am not a great fan of cordless but if you can get a mains device then fine. After 30 years of caravanning we find simplest is best.

We use a Gtec(the cheapest it was£29) that we got a couple of years ago its rechargable and has a rotating brush that we find is fine for carpets, and the long handle detaches,so can be used on upholstry

A few years ago I bought a cheap dust buster on line. It worked very well, but sounded like a jet aircraft on take off. It had to go. Now a gtech machine is used, but cheap it is not. Maybe the dustpan and brush still has a place.

We also have this machine, for a unit for use on EHU it is very effective. Its super long cable makes it good for car cleaning.

Re cordless, I don't feel that battery technology is there yet for cheap, powerful and effective all together?

Thanks folks.  I really needed a cordless as caravan is kept in storage and we often go without EHU.  I have ordered a vax of Amazon so fingers crossed.

There were a few to choose from.  I wanted an 18v one in the hope it is stronger.  I went for this one at £49.99 (cheaper than the vax website). http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vax-H85-GA-P18-Cordless-Vacuum-Cleaner/dp/B015QZH2E0/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen-appliances&ie=UTF8&qid=1460656172&sr=1-4&keywords=vax+handheld+vacuum+cleaner

Juat for info, I got the above dustbuster after previous recommendations and I am more than happy with it's performance.  Did a good job of getting grass and dust up off the carpets and cushions.

I take it you don't have an inverter Tracey? We have a powerful 240v handheld and all run through an inverter.
