thanks, Peedee.....im due a satnav update...will put them on later this week...
on a slightly different note, i have the ACSI app and have several countires loaded.....i wanted to add Germany but cant find a way to 'buy' this file.....any ideas?

I only have the current ASCI discount card App, once you have opened the App select the drop down Menu (top left corner), Downloads and you should be presented with a list of countries. Opposite each it should say whether you can download or delete a country and if you are on line selecting download should do the business.
From the above screenshot you can see I have downloaded Belgiim, France, Portugal UK and Germany for off line use.

Further to the above if it is the ACSI Europe App you have you must have the current year version to download selected countries. I have the 2015 App and it won't allow me to download anything without making a 2016 subscription. However what I downloaded in 2015 still loads off line and with the latest POIs, I can live with that for a couple or so years.

yes, thats what should happen but when i hit downloads, i get a page (a bit) like yours but with nothing in it....not even the countries that i already have loaded.....
might delete and reload....? but i know i get the ones that i already have for free for this year....i guess id have to pay again if i started again....
its a pain as their customer service is non existant....

you may be right....the logo on my app is 'CC' rather than ACSI, would that be right?

AD, screen shot of a few of the POIs I have loaded on my Co-Pilot sat nav. Note the individual icons for sites including Aires and parking places. I don't have to undertake any further interrogation of the map to see what is what and I can also request the nearest ACSI site for example.

The set of Archies I have, downloaded in Feb 2015 and not used, only has only the "A" icon for every site and would load into my sat nav as say "Archies Sites" and I would not be able to search for sites by groups, e.g. ACSI or Club sites.

There have been multiple updates to Archie's - the latest in January, and really you need the latest version - there are hundreds more ACSI sites, and less Camping Cheque sites this year, so the old information isn't reliable. Information is kept up to date - 'Archie' works tirelessly to ensure the information is as relevant as it can be and asks that if anyone notices anything which is out of date they let him know via the website.

Yes just looked at the latest offerings and they have been broken down more than they used to be but the categories on offer e.g. camping cheque sites, I don't use. Agree I could easily use my own icons with these.
What would be useful is a set of up to date Continental campsites open all year.

I've brought that up with Archie, more than once. I'll let you know if/when it becomes likely.

If all you want is POI files dont buy them from ACSI, go to
Archies Camping where the ACSI card sites are described as "Camping Card" and down load them and if you want another 30000+ sites download everything else.AD, we dont have to buy the POI file for my satnav from ACSI, theyre free...
the ones i was referring to are the ones that sit with the ACSI/CC app.....
i generally have them in both places....the sat nav ones for obvious reasons....navigate to.....etc.
with the app, the files contain much, much more info.....just like having the book on your ipad, and it works offline too....
but thanks for the tip....i realise Archie is there as backup....and i thank all you guys for helping to put it all together.....its appreciated.

For the benefit of the uninitiated I.e. me, could somebody explain in outline how you would load POIs onto a stand-alone satnav like say a Garmin? At the moment I have a built-in satnav in the car which doesn't have a USB connection but I plan to buy a standalone
Garmin or TomTom for the motorhome. I know you can synchronise with the suppliers website to update the maps but what about third party data?0 -
hitch, dont know much about garmin except that i think you need a 'loader' program to move from a pc to the satnav.
on a tomtom, there are two types...
...one (like mine) where you can ise Windows to literally drag and drop the poi files into the map area of the satnav...
...two, newer models i believe, connect via a Tomtom different program, where poi files have been vetted and placed in a tomtom library (bit like itunes, i guess...) and moved to the satnav via the tomtom connection program.

dave, a couple of points, please....
which app is this a snapshot of (google maps or similar?) which allows offline mapping...?
as Peedee said earlier, do all the different type of sites (acsi, cc, etc) all show with a red pin icon?

I use the free mapping app called 'MAPS.ME' and then download the countries that is needed, it is full offline mapping to street level with full information (POI's) built in, can also use your GPS for location and routing. To use Archies ACSI file I Emailed
from my desktop to myself, right click and open with 'MAPS.ME', it then holds it as a Bookmark and can be turned off or on as needed.Although Archies have a different BMP picture for different types of sites, MAPS.ME doesn't use it and uses its own 'pin'. As I can turn on or off individual bookmarks (or sites) in the mapping programme it doesn't bother me that it uses the same icon pin
for location.If I turned on all Bookmarks (Campingcard, CampingCheque etc) it can look a bit busy until zoomed in with the same pin.

I think Maps.Me is very simialr to OsmAnd which I find great for local navigation but in the past for long distance stuff it did not perform so well. They have made lots of improvements over the last couple of years so perhaps this is no longer the case?

Sorry 'peedee', must be my thick moment, can you expand a little on your question
. If you mean by a category either ACSI Camping card sites or Camping cheque sites, then I Bookmark them seperately as their own files and I can turn either on or both on together.If I have just ACSI sites showing, MAPS.ME has a search facility to look for individual sites, towns, villages etc.
I also have the ACSI sites on my cars built in satnav for routing, and only use the tablet for planning in the caravan. On saying that, my wife likes the paper map.

I am assuming that when you load "Archies" into Maps.Me they are loaded as one group, e.g.. Club sites are within the same category as commercial sites. If this is the case how can you switch just the commercial sites off to just show Club sites let alone search for the nearest Club site.

For those interested in using POI's on a tablet with full offline mapping, at the moment I have CC sites UK, CL's UK and European ACSI sites loaded. Each section (bookmark) can be switched on or off as desired so as not to be too cluttered, also full address, co-ordinates and tel numbers included.
Shown below is just CC sites UK.

Caravan Club sites were taken from here, downloaded the 'Garmin' CSV file, converted online to KML file to work with MAPS.ME. Archies ACSI sites already gave the option to download his files in KML.
BTW, the Principality of Sealand on the map made an interesting read when looked up online.
