The car wifi by EE is advertised in Member Offers and seems like a good idea to get wifi wherever you can get an EE signal , and in France through Orange Fr.

The initial offer for 6Gb for 90 days is good, but how to top up when you want more or it expires.  EE only seem to do a monthly contract, 24 months for 2 Gb pm at £11 pm,  I want a pay as you go. Has anyone used this scheme yet?

I've put a giffgaff data only sim in my car, it runs the wifi, travel updates for the sat nav and google earth mode for the sat nav and the audi connect services all for £5 a month.

My phone is connected to the car through blutooth for calls.

I have the EE WiFI Dongle (bought direct from EE Shop) that I use in the car day in day out, the version I have plugs into the 12v socket and on trips to Malvern last weekend and Trevornick in Cornwall over easter it worked reaally well plugged into the
caravan socket. EE I am led to believe have the best coverage of 4g across the UK.

Hi raf  EE do actually do top ups for their data sims but you will have had to have bought a pay as you go sim in the first place, if you didn,t then simply go to their website and get another pay as you go one as they dont cost anything apart from the price
    of the top up.

    hope that helps

I've just had a look at the offer and it is preloaded with 6gb which lasts for 90 days and you then top it up as required. Pretty good deal I think after looking at the ee website

Update: Went into the EE shop.  Firstly its not so easy just to top up, need a new SIM card.  Secondly and more important for me-cannot be used in France
