What's happening this weekend
Just tried to book 2 CC sites for the weekend and both are full (Ferry Meadows & Cherry Hinton) is everyone doing their Xmas shopping early? Obviously no one put off by the sky high prices they allegedly charge
.

Dont always beleive a site is fully booked by the online booking page. I always check with the site if they have pitches if its showing fully booked. Just a word of warning Ferry Meadows have got the security guys on the gate again as there are travellers

Be interesting to know if you get a pitch at either.

I'm also trying to get into Cherry Hinton for the weekend after this one. That is showing full as well. I check the late availabitllity on a regular basis in the hope of a cancellation. I've been pretty lucky in the past, so fingers are firmly crossed.

Don't know what's in store for you lot but it's supposed to be honking here over the weekend. Not towing weather.

Our chosen site for this weekend was originally showing fully booked for one of nights we needed. Now there are dozens of pitches free, as I am guessing rally has cancelled. FM and CH are close to towns/cities, with lots of attractions, hope you get lucky.

There are also a lot less sites open after half term so that must put pressure on the remaining sites? Can't even suggest the C&CC site in Cambridge as that closed on 7th November!!!

Write your comments here...we gave up membership this year due to their antiquated booking system and unhelpful and rude staff plus in our opinion the sites are not as good as CC and we hated the frog march to the pitch.... must be the reason we only used
them about 4 times in 10 years of membership0 -
Plenty of great CL's around
Write your comments here...we really wanted hard standing and near a city for some shopping. also have a couple of site vouchers to use up and after reading good reviews of ferry meadows on here thought we would give it a try, also only a couple of hours
drive on a Friday, Cambridge about an hour or so.0 -
whilst the CCC site at Cambrigde may be shut, IMHO its far nice than the dank, dingy Cherry Hinton effort.
we cycled over there to check it out while at the CCC site and it could only be described as disappointing....seemed old, damp, overcast and.....no thanks.
by total contast the CCC site had just been refurbed with brand new HS pitches and easy access onto the city cycle route.
chalk and chicken, AMOBUTS
id suggest Oxford but youve lapsed your CCC membership...

and that is why I said some C&CC sites are better. When I visit Cambridge I use the C&CC site these days. It is also very cheap if you use a grass non electric pitch.

We liked the C&CC site in Cambridge. Nice Garden Centre an easy walk away. However my impression was that it was not as well served by public transport as Cherry HInton. The CC site also has a pub with a restuarant nearby as well. Obviously depends on how
important these things are to you.David

for you (pre-allocated) but that has changed now. One of the wardens will come with you to wherever there are pitches of the type you've booked, let you choose your pitch and then leave you to it. All very civilised, and if you qualify for ACR very economical
too!0 -
One of our first holidays with the MH was at the C&CC site in Cambridge. We had a baby c/w pram. The public transport was superb, very helpful with getting pram on/off busses. We toured Norfolk & Suffolk too on that trip with assistance with pram. Was 9
years ago now, has it changed that much?Spent time in Cornwall in same season. 'Youre not bringing that thing (pram) on this bus' Contrast & compare

Write your comments here...we tried a few different sites from memory Canterbury, Horsley, Chertsey, Charmouth and a coupole of others and all them we were allocated a pitch and taken to it (managed to find my way to site sure I can manage to get around a campoing field) all of them the facilities were not as good as CC. Of course there will be better ones and Cambride is so close we normally do it as a day trip anyway. The booking system is awful, insist on a deposit, you cannot amend it without having to refund deposit and take another, you cannot book single nights in high season, and genrally the staff at HO are not very nice (at elast the ones I ahve spoken to) so am saving £40 a eyar for something we did not use.
Am far too young to get an old persons discount which I guess is good :-)

Polstead? We could take our pick but there weren't many HS left.

I have used Cherry Hinton site twice in the last 7 years, on each occasion I left the caravan and walked to find a pitch. I agree that there are some pitches that I would really not choose.
Shall not return though due to the poor visibility on exit. Before I lost most of the site in my right eyes and have had to rely on weak left eye and glasses I did not recall a great problem. Maybe some of the trees were better cut back? Now it is a problem
as when looking to my right it takes longer to vire without looking outside my glasses and it makes it an unpleasant situation. If I return to the area I might well use the CCC site. Not a member but would join if it suited me for a 5 night stay0 -
Cherry Hinton isn't a site we liked much, we stayed in January so had pick of most pitches and choose a nice open one, but agree it is dark and ank in some spots. I seem to remember quite a bit of noise in the evenings from nearby sports stadium. Might
give the C&CC site a try if you can cycle into Cambridge.0 -
We only use Cherry Hinton as it's ideal for a quick weekend away and it's proximity to Cambridge. I get more time off work than my wife so I go Friday lunch time and it's then close enough for her to drive to after she finishes work. We have been there
a couple of times this year and been lucky enough to have a decent pitch at the top. The pitches low down are dark, damp and horrible at this time of year.0 -
I stayed at Chertsey this year and Horsley C&CC sites last year and on both occasions I was shown to suitable pitches but advised if I wanted to change to others nearby I could. I was quite happy with those directed to. I would stay at either again in fact intended to use Horsley again this year but for various reasons could not make it. Its an excellent site for visiting Wisley RHS Gardens and Polesden Lacey NT and on site fishing.

Write your comments here...We visited at Bank Holidays so was not given an option and again a few years ago. Both were full and packed in like sardines but I guess at quieter times it woudl not be so bad.
