Thank You costs nothing!

I know this has been raised before but why is it that some folk ask for advice on here and do nothing to acknowledge it when it's given?

Twice in the past week I've answered requests for information about sites, one for a winter seasonal pitch and one for a Christmas/New Year booking.

And not a dicky bird in reply! Not even to say thank you but it's not really what we're looking for.  Makes you wonder if it was worth answering in the first place! Yell

I do more asking than giving advice but do notice the bad manners that you are highlighting. Very annoying.

IMO it's always worth supplying an answer if possible. The thanks one does get far outway the non-reponses, however ignorant those posters might be.

Yes I agree with that, nellie. But it doesn't ease the frustration when one's advice seems to be completely ignored though!

I am always grateful for answered questions, even if not my own questions Moulesy. So the recipient might not show gratitude but I assure you that I do appreciate anybodys effort. I try and help and often I am thanked, if not I just shrug

No it doesn't, M. I've said the same in the past, although at times there are good reasons why the poster has not responded.

I don't look for thanks. I'm just relieved when people don't contradict my answer, criticise and disagree with what I have said, and start a long argumentative quarrel with others joining in.

Couldn't agree more Moulesy.  It's only good manners to come back and post a thankyou message.  It happens on other forums as well.  A "Thank you" button and a way of seeing who did the thanking could be useful for those who can only type questions and not thanks.

It's not that we're looking for thanks, just a bit of respect for the time we take to reply, even going so far as to look things up on Google to make the reply more useful.

If someone asked for advice directly then I might be peeved if, when I supplied that advice, they did not acknowledge it. However, I do not expect an acknowledgement of any general response in a thread.

'forum life'         Interesting - never heard it called that.

Have to say I am new to it.  Have received helpful advice & replied with thanks.  Also picked up bits of info & had a laugh with some 'discussions'.

If someone asks a question with which I can help, I give the required advice.  ---Thats called being helpful.

It matters nought whether the recipient of that advice takes the trouble to express their thanks.-------Bad manners maybe --- but hardly worth getting all hot and bothered about.  . Chill out its only a forum. Smile

Politeness costs nothing , and a short acknowledgement from a poster does go a long way ..

The trouble with this sort of thread is that anyone who has the audacity not to post a thank you, having read this, are they going to come back and post a thankyou? I suspect they won't bother to post again!!! There is no requirement to post thanks and I
think we should work on that basis.

And what happens if they post a subsequent question? Would you just ignore it or supply a response? It only takes a moment to read the replys to one's question and post a thanks. In my opinion it's just ignorance not to do so.

I agree, NTH. It's not a requirement by any means but is simply good manners to acknowledge help given. I don't suppose any of us are seeking undying gratitude but a simple thanks goes a long way towards building good relations.

There a couple of posters who have been downright rude and I won't be offering advice if they ask for help in future.

I just think that is life. Some people say thanks and others do not but life is to short to worry about the ignorant soles who do not. It is nice to be thanked but I will not lose any sleep over those who do not.

I'm with DK. A one line post that says "thanks", whilst courteous, merely clutters up the forum. I want to read posts with meat in them. We are not taking afternoon tea in a Victorian tearoom.

Its a sad reflection on the quality of the discussion subjects on this forum now. . When we have posters startintg huffy,  insignificant and irrelevant moaning threads such as this one.

Gone are the days when intelligent and challenging subjects were enjoyed daily by members. Sad but true.

There are 31 topics for Discussion on this forum with, by now, thousands of replies. Some you will like some you will not.

I can't say that I bother checking back to see if there is a 'thank you'.......I'm not that precious. Some clearly are.

I do tend to say thank you if I get a reply to a question, but it doesn't offend me if I don't get one when I answer.

On the matter about whether I would answer a second question from the poster - well it's unlikely that I would remember their name, so the answer is probably yes, if I know the answer.

I agree that one word 'Thanks' answers just clutter the place up.......almost as bad as putting +1 as a reply Wink

There is no requirement in all the walks of life to say 'thank you', but what a sad world to be without manners. If we cannot say it as we would face to face, then at least type it.

It is a sad reflection on the attitudes of today's society , the same goes with complaints the few who think they have problems are always more vocal than the vast majority of happy people
