Thank You costs nothing!

We have people who don't turn up for their appointment at CAB and don't even bother to cancel.
This has two results - firstly, the volunteer adviser who has given up their time for free has a wasted morning or afternoon (unless they can pick up another appointment from someone who just happens to walk in for advice).....and secondly, someone else
who could have had that appointment has missed out (and it can take 2 weeks or more to get an appointment). Not good, is it?

Whilst not especially bothered whether posters come back to say thanks I do like it when they come back to say whether the problem has been sorted and how.
exactly, how knowledgebases are developed....its how folk get to know about 'known issues' and their cures....
so, perhaps not 'thanks'.....but 'that did the trick'.....or not (and this is equally important) really helps....

I just think that is life. Some people say thanks and others do not but life is to short to worry about the ignorant soles who do not. It is nice to be thanked but I will not lose any sleep over those who do not.
May I ask, is "soles" a typo (souls) or, an abbreviation?

I suspect it's a typo in much the same way as your misplaced comma and the mistakes we all make, K&K, but I expect the poster will thank you for pointing it out.

Unfortunately the can't be bothered attitude is prevalent in other aspects of life. Both our dentist and doctors have signs up saying how much time has been lost in missed appointments. I can't remember the exact figures but I found them staggering. Both send reminders in the form of multiple text messages. This system works well, and most these days have a mobile. I suppose at least on CT there is the possible excuse of not being able to find the thread again, or not getting the email reminder.
Same at our dentist. About 5 years ago OH was meeting some friends off the train, I was doing a few jobs, then hygeinist visit and meeting up with OH and the friends to bring them to stay with us for the weekend. 10.30am I stopped work to give me time to get a swill and to the dentists for 11.15am. Then I realised that it was a 10.45 appointment!! I phoned up and offered to pay for the appointment as I could not hope to get there in time as I was still in my muck but, moreover, it was a 25 minute journey.
When I attended the rescheduled appointment I was given two new replacement heads for my electric toothbrush as a thankyou. I was not charged for missed appointment

I was not "pointing it out", it was a joke, but, not funny when you have to explain it. ****soles, term of abuse, get it?

The fact you posted pointed it out but you're right on it not being funny, K&K. Bad luck.

Not ever, but particularly when folk have volunteered their time.

We all agree that in a perfect "Genteel" world, everybody would say please and thank you. That is being polite.
But this is not a perfect world and people don't respond in the way they did 60 years ago.
If I posted a request for information, on receipt of that information I would always thank the person concerned. That's the way I was brought up.
Conversely if I was able to help someone who asked a question I would do so, without expectations of renumeration , adoration, or appreciation.---- My help would be given freely, expecting nothing in return. My thanks would be that I had helped a fellow human being.
What I would not do, is go in the huff, because a couple of people did not give thanks for the information, nor would I start a thread moaning about it.
Quote from the OP "
"Twice in the past week I've answered requests for information about sites, one for a winter seasonal pitch and one for a Christmas/New Year booking.
And not a dicky bird in reply! Not even to say thank you but it's not really what we're looking for. Makes you wonder if it was worth answering in the first place!"
End Quote
-- We live in an imperfect world,--- My advice to the OP, which he is free to accept or reject is :- -----Chill out. There are worse things happening in the world than somebody neglecting to say " Thank You".
Cheers K

Thats a bit strong, K. Huff, moaning? Hardly but thankyou for taking the time to express your views in such an expansive manner.

Oh dear, K, I won't bore others by quoting your rather lengthy post here. But you do exaggerate when it suits, don't you?
Who's "going off" in a huff? Certainly not me - I'm just raising a point as others have in the past.
Not for me to throw in the towel and flounce off when things aren't going the way I like. I'm afraid you're letting past differences cloud your judgement, which I would have thought, as an "experienced forum user" you would have been above!

Incidentally, you both say you read more than you post and yet I note by your stars that you both appear to be active.

Nicely explained NTH.
Going on what you say and looking at your four purple stars then your keyboard must be about worn out,
I'm only an amateur compared to some. I collect a lot of my points from writing reviews of sites that we've visited,
