Showers v wash cubicles
I was wondering while queuing for the showers on one of the club sites this week while the cubicles with wash basins were all free is there a call for so many of these cubicles nowadays and then it got me wondering as I'm new to the caravan club having only
been a member for three years was there ever such a demand that on most sites I have been to there's usually more cubicles than showers and in some cases there bigger than the showers. I presume that at some point there was and maybe there still is. Does anyone
know as well if when the club invests into renovating the toilet blocks does it keep the same number of showers and cubicles or does it increase the showers and decrease the cubicles. I look forward to your responses.

I feel on the CC sites there is no real need for quite so many. We used to use them when we "tented" having no facilities of our own but never since moving to caravans and now our motorhome. We all have our own facilities for basic washing I'm sure and as
a very limited amount of sites accept tents now surely just a couple per block would be adequate leaving an opportunity to upgrade and a couple more showers to be added.0 -
A point that has been raised many times and is consistently ignored by the CC.
Unfortunately, the CC are not all that familiar with caravans, motorhomes or caravan sites, so they keep churning out their standard design for toilet blocks.
In answer to your question......No - even on their newest sites and when re-developing toilet blocks, they still insist on installing these wash cubicles, which then stand empty for the most part. Whilst queues form for the toilets and showers at busy times.

fur ball, this has been a topic of conversation before on here so you are not alone in asking this question. If I remember right, I think most would prefer to see more shower cubicle and less of the wash basin kind.
I think some men us the wash basins for having a shave, I know my OH does. When I had children I used to use the hand basins in the block rather than in the van for a quick wash and brush up, teeth clean etc. I personally wouldn't want them to go fully but
I think just 2 would be sufficient. In all my years of camping I've never had to queue for a shower, I don't go first thing in the morning as I'm a late riser0 -
I have rarely queued for showers, often I arrive as one becomes free, but they are often busy. I'd like to be like tammygirl but closing for cleaning about 1000-1030 drives me mad if you are too late its noon before you can get back in. I can count on one
hand the number of times I've seen a wash basin cubicle being used, so a reduced number would seem sensible replacing them with showers. We do use our facilities but prefer to use site showers, a service we pay for!!! I do find glib comments such as use your own very annoying. There may be plenty of reasons why people don't, even to the point of speed if there's several people in one van.
It would be nice if users were asked for their comments. We did have surveys once a while ago, but then they were not on useful subjects

I've very seldom ever have to queue for a shower, probably because I go when we've returned from our day out and just before our dinner. Do use the wash cubilcle in a morning for a wash & shave though, and aways find one free.

Most of the newer shower blocks we have come across have had a much larger number of showers than the older facilities. Usually in the order of 10 / 12 rather than 6. They have still to my mind had too many privacy cubicles though. Although others may disagree.
As long as there are sufficient showers, personally I could not care how many cubicles there are.0 -
I think the sink only cubicles are handy to have but would agree that generally there are too many of them and it would be better to have more showers. I would only use one to have a shave and use the van facilities for everything else.

Personally, we visit the showers in as few clothes as possible, usually shorts/ track suit and fleecy top, then dress properly on return to the van. Means we are quicker in the shower.
We do the same. Equivalent of a dressing gown when were away, don't do dressing gowns often at home. Wouldn't walk about a site in my dressing gown even if I took one. Some do each to their own .

Yes that early can be annoying, if we are on a site that closes early I tend to wait until later in the day to have a shower, usually have the place to myself then.

Wash basin cubicle for a quick shave.
Then into shower cubicle.
Then back into wash basin cubicle for hair and teeth.
I've seen all cubicles full and all cubicles empty.

As a family with 2 teenagers, I'd spend my whole holiday filling aquarolls and waiting my turn to get in.

Knock all the toilet blocks down and use the space for more pitches, don't caravans and M/H's come with their own facilities
Write your comments here...Great suggestion. Why do we need the old fashioned idea of public lavatories when we have those facilities in our own vans.
The cost of wages for CC workers would be cut, because all sites would only need one Warden couple.

Not quite so fair on those with really small vans, without full facilities. Or trailer tents. After all they are members too.

Presumably a tongue in cheek comment, HD!
There are plenty of non facility sites and CLs for those with large enough outfits who choose to use them.
For those at the more modest end of the market, and I suspect, the vast majority of folk the facilities are used regularly.
As far as the wash cubicles are concerned, there may be some sites where some of them could be replaced by showers, agreed. Personally, I use them for a wash & shave in the morning and then shower in the afternoon when we're back from our day out walking.
Can't ever remember having to queue for a shower on CC sites!0 -
dont (pretty well) all caravans (even modest ones) come with a washroom, these days...?
i realise that some 'campervans' might not have one, but even PVC sized MH have showers and toilets these days.
re: site cubicles.....dont think ive ever been in one....first time i went to a CC site, i assumed they were all toilets....
whilst i have used site showers (if the weather conditions for the 'traipse' are favourable....) on occasions, i cant say ive seen the cubicles much in use.....Id definitely think the 'ratio' wasnt quite correct and more showers could be introduced.
pwrhaps make the showers a tiny bit larger and include a mirror and sink and you have something where all cubicles could be removed and folk who move between these two 'rooms' (and back again....) would save much time...
so instead of (say) 10 showers and 10 (mostly unused cubicles) you could get (say) 14/16 or so combined shower/cubicles (and even leave two cubicles) where there might be no waiting for showers and no unused cubicles standing idle and taking up valuable
shower space.0 -
know what you mean, Brue....

I tend to use the shower in the van in the morning, but then the block in the evening (a lot of water). I also like the cubicles, they provide somewhere tidy to have a decent shave.

We usually use our onboard bathroom, but I like to use a site shower to wash my hair. Long and takes some rinsing. Agree too many cubicles v showers nowadays. They seem rarely used in Ladies side, usually Mum and girls brushing teeth in evening.
Note to CC: keep a couple in ladies, but any new build or refurb ought to provide more showers, especially on small/ mid sized sites which can be short of showers. I won't queue, just turn around and use onboard instead.

Double the capacity by sharing!
We haven't all got five oclock shadows Dave....
sharing the showers and not the cubicles, perhaps....?
