Too old at 11 to use the site park?

Hello,

we are staying at the Tees Barage - White Water site.

My son yesterday was told by the warden he was too old to use the park as he is 11 Years old. He is still in Primary school. I never realised the club had an upper age limit for the use of the swings. There are no signs on the park. I have seen some Caravan
club park signs that say children under 10 should be supervised.

He came back to the caravan a bit disappointed and sat in the caravan for the rest of the evening.

The idea of us buying a caravan was to get our children out if the house and away from the TV.

Is the age 10 limit a club policy or just  warden 'thing'?

No idea. I would have had a word with the warden. As far as I am concerned an age cut off should be flexible,

Agree with Easy T.  Not all children are of equal size at the same age.

sounds like another warden on a power trip ...... I found nothing in the rules about an upper age limit

would be nice to get word one way or the other from the powers that be

If it's the same warden that we saw at our visit to White water park I would think it's a warden thing

in which case the CC should be having words ..... I can understand not wanting a huge group of older teens gathering on the swings, but even then, if they're only talking & not causing a disruption, I don't really see much harm.

That is ridiculous. Is your son, like our grandchildren, tall for his age? If he is then maybe the warden thought he was older. I would definitely be having a word with the warden and ask exactly what the age limit is. At Hillhead this year most of the kids
in the park were this age or older. As someone else said its not as though it's teenagers messing about. A quiet word is defnately needed.

I would ask the CC for clarification - they don't often read these pages as far as I can see.  Seems a nonsense to bar a single small boy - groups of teens are quite another matter.

.....looks as if I won't be coming out to play either HD!

I think it would be worth contacting the Club directly for clarification.  My guess is that an age limit could very well be different at each CC site according to the facilities that the site has to offer.  I would have thought it good policy to put information
about age/weight/height restriction on the website/handbook so that families could plan accordingly.

Why should an age limit be different on different sites? And what facilities do CC sites provide for little ones apart from a few swings & a slide? If you're very lucky there might be a family room with a pool table.

I reported the thread so shall we run a sweep on when the reply might be? Sealed

The limits could well be different according to the size and type of equipment installed and how substantial it is.  I guess this could be different from site to site.  Mind you, it's been ages since I've had a go on the swings.....

I would recommend the OP writes to the CC head office for clarification of this rule in relation to that particular site.-- I'm sure we would all like to hear what Head Office decides. .

Interesting thread, its quite obviose from the reviews of this site that the OP seems to have caught the staff on an "off" day? as the reviews seem to not reflect it, and if there was a "problem" it is usually shown in the reviews?Wink

A sign has just been put up today It says the park is unsuitable for under 5's and between 5 and 10 children must be supervised. Nothing on the sign about being over 10.

I think park is new and the warden didn't want big kids smashing it.

Sounds to me as though the over 10s can use it without a parent!  I hope you manage to get some answers for your young un.

How the **** can a park be unsuitable for under 5s? Yell I'm sure that any child under 5 would be there with his Mum/Dad/etc. We had our 9 MONTH old grand daughter on a swing last week, the type that they couldn't fall out of, it was pushed about 3 ft away from us. Not sure if she liked it .... but she didn't cry! Laughing

I wonder why families are thin on the ground at CC sites?

..I've seen this sign on many a club site and can't for the life of me understand it, WHY! because there are baby swings in the parks, these are only suitable for toddlers so definitely under 5 years.

Once upon a time in a land before 'elf 'n' safety a parent made the call as to whether it was safe, swings didn't always have safety rails. We had 'cake' roundabouts, 'American' double swings and are still alive .....

I just went an had a look and they have big swings and small swings that babies get put in. They also have a mini climbing thing with a tunnel a small scramble net anf very small slide. I am sure a 3 or 4 year old could easily tackle it with great fun. They
also have them bouncy animals on springs And all the floor is bouncy. So really it's geared up for little ones but also has some bigger swings for bigger kids.

Some older kids had knotted the swing chain...I sorted it out.

I will put it down to bad signage and a 'protective' Warden.

The equipment I've seen in CC playgrounds are the same standard as you see in many playgounds, we have 2 in our village. There are no signs saying no under 5s or anything about parents supervising 5 - 10 years old. There is a sign that says the council are
not responsible for any accidents occuring, or some such words. I believe that is all that is required, use at your own risk type of thing.

Why hasn't this thread been closed like others have when it makes a complaint against wardens. Moderators have said they have a duty of care towards employees and I don't see the difference between this and other threads

It doesn't appear to be attack on anyone, the OP is asking a question about children using the playground. A mod (DSB) has kindly asked the CC for more information.
