Why not place caravan on pitch with motormover

I like plenty of space in front of the awning for the loungers, we frequently pitch side on.

Ian, when you sit lounging in your caravan with your feet up, is your back against the front end or middle?
IMO a good view out of the front window is over rated, I would much rather have the view out of the side
Strange? - Yes probably!

It would be fairly simple to design a transmitter/receiver system so that you placed two small transmitter pegs at the position you want the van, press a button and have the van mover park the van itself. Perhaps I should patent it?

When we have a free choice to pitch, thee are several factors that effect our choice. Probably the main factor is the position of the 'services' (electric hook up point, water hook up tap, waste water drainaway). On some pitches they are not always in
the most convenient or logical places places. Sometimes the water tap can be at the opposite end of the pitch to the waste water drain. Pitching can depend on the length of your hoses! Another thing that effects our decision is the position of trees.David

I find it strange, that given free choice (so not CC sites) that folk find it strange that others have a different view to them. We are all individuals, so why is it so surprising that what we consider the optimum position should differ.

Because it doesn't match their perfect ideas, obviously.

Looking at AD's photo, we would have pitched (with a caravan) exactly the same way. Caravan across the back awning in front of it and the car to one side. That gives easy access to awning, plenty of room to sit out, easy for taking car out for the day.
If you park like on a cc site the awning would have been right up against the hedge, so the only door you could use would be the side door, if you rolled the front up then you'd be sat looking at a hedge, with no space in front of you to sit out in the sun.

Given the opportunity I will always pitch across the Pitch (French Style) with the awning facing out. So much more sociable, and encourages walkers to stop & have a chat. Just one of the reasons that I Never use club sites any more!
I am a sociable animal!

It may be that even given a free choice elsewhere, CC members are simply unable to break away from the CC pitching mentality.

Write your comments here...I dont think you can blame CC members for that mentalty . They are only able to pitch in accordance with the instructions of the Warden with no other option.

Speak for yourself. The CC members we encounter on CLs more often than not pitch side on.

You beat me to it billy. This year, on any CC, C&CC or private site we've been on, there is really only one way to pitch. On the CLs and CSs that's not the case and almost without exception folk have pitched in a variety of orientations. (Of course, that's assuming they're grass - HS on CLs and CSs usually have the same restrictions.)

Not the case, I'm afraid. I am happy to pitch in what orientation suits best, as long as it is allowed. Sometimes the pitch itself dictates orientation. If it has a strong front to back gradient, pitching cross ways would be difficult.
edit We stop 100 nights + on CC sites, so pitching to the peg is fairly drummed in.

In our experience it may be 50% at most.
Unfortunately if a CL has installed hardstandings they have almost always followed the CC approach

And there's the rub! Understandable that, given the restricted space available on many CLs, HS, if installed have to follow that pattern to make best use of the space. And, of course, then vans are pitched accordingly. Which just makes the argument for retaining
at least some grass pitches stronger so that folk can pitch as they like, I feel.0 -
Final word on this (as the thread is supposed to be about using motor movers)......I still find it strange that people would prefer to be pitched within, what is generally perceived, close proximity to their neighbour and the inherent fire risk that creates.
And you almost certainly will be too close when pitching sideways - especially in the photo posted!
I might say that there was the odd valid comment about sitting in the awning.....but there again, I also find it odd (as someone who moved from tents and was so glad to leave that hassle behind) that some people have the desire to put a huge tent up against
their caravan.0 -

If caravanning abroad the reason is almost certainly shade, shade, shade.

No, no, not at all David!
I'm perfectly happy for other people to have awnings.....it provides plenty of amusement watching them being put up and the arguments that ensue. I get an especially satisfying glow when someone who arrived about the same time as us is still wandering around, banging in pegs two hours later, while we are sat in the caravan, having had a leisurely lunch, drinking coffee and ready to go out for the afternoon.
Not keen on people parking on top of each other though, that much is true.

Now that would be a challenge, even with a motor-mover.

We were sat on the site road at Cheddar on Saturday while our new neighbour taught his son /grandson how to use the mover to get their van onto the pitch (for a full 15 mins!)

That is just downright mean. That lad would love to have a radio controlled car of his own!
