Looks fine, but the £15 is midweek only, Fri & Sat £20, also extra £2 for dogs and additional charge for electricity over 10 KWattHours per day.

That starts adding up. Maybe not so cheap after all. I wonder what the dog gets for his £2?

The Quiet Site accepts Camping Cheques, which if bought directly wll cost you £14.95 per night.  However, there are seven for sale on UKCS of just £77.00 - meaning one night will cost £11.00 - and that includes the pitch, caravan and awning, two adults, electricity and a dog,

Camping Cheques are accepted between the following dates:

    from 22/02/2016 to 24/03/2016
    from 11/04/2016 to 28/04/2016
    from 03/05/2016 to 26/05/2016
    from 06/06/2016 to 14/07/2016
    from 05/09/2016 to 20/10/2016
    from 31/10/2016 to 22/12/2016

And note that includes weekends so that would be a significant saving on weekends during the above period.

Write your comments here...evidently his own key for the dog showers, and the Warden calls at 08.30 to take him for a walk.

NO, sod all, just a money making excercise, wont be going, dont like sites that charge seperately for dogs, avoid them on principle.

No, neither do I!  Obvously no one is interested in saving money!

Many people are unaware that Camping Cheques and ACSI Cards can be used in this country, and a two week holiday would add up to a significant saving.

We always did intend to use our unused Camping Cheques.

Why is it people always like to knock Commercial sites when the nearby CC sites are:                                                                                                a) Closed                                                                                             b) more expensive for less facilites

Surely the charge for dogs is just another way to discourage those who like to bring packs of dogs.

I was not knocking any commercial sites, just pointing out that they don't alway appear as cheap as they first look.

Thanks for the heads up ValDa. Will certainly look into perhaps getting some. Can they only be used in the year of purchase? I'm always looking for a way to save a bob or two.Wink

ValDa, is there a list of sites in this country that accept Camping Cheques? Must one be a member of UKCS to purchase them at the 7 for 6 offer?

Nellie, I'm sure ValDa will come back to you but if you are ok with me answering then here goes. Anyone can buy Camping Cheques, you can go onto the site and look up which sites will take them in the UK (not a lot) but there are some that would be worth getting them for if you wanted to go to that area. I'm pretty sure in saying cheques have a 2 year life, but I think its best to buy them at the begining of the year.

Have you had a look at Acsi there's quite a few of them in the UK now.

Thanks TG, will certainly look into it. As you know we caravan all year round and it's good to have a way to get onto commercial sites at what we would consider a reasonable price during the winter months.

We tour UK more in the off season so have been looking at this aswell, we use both of the schemes when abroad so its nice to see more sites in the UK joining them.

Hi, we went in April this year for 8 nights and on balance, I have to say I didn't like it. It does indeed have rave reviews so maybe it was just us.

We had a caravan at the time (M/H now) and we were allocated a pitch which we really didn't like and even though we asked if we could change, we were told the others were reserved. We had also asked to reserve one at the top of the site but were told reservations weren't allowed - so it left us fairly confused!

Vans where were were situated could position themselves at any angle so we ended up looking directly on to the back of a caravan - really close and that was our view!

Also there was a huge amount of noise going on as they were building new camping huts/pods (can't remember the name of them) at the top and the noise lasted right through the day)

There is also a section of statics

Toilets and showers were ok but not to the standard of say Rowntree or Carrsington and there was a lot of coming and going with one nighters staying in the pods - which definitely is a big draw for people.

The bar is lovely - really quirky and more like and old fashioned lakes pub than a "caravan site bar" and the walks from the site fantastic - there's a cracking all dayer that goes up into the hills and look right down across Ulswater which is absolutely sesnational.

No issue with noise on the site at all.

We woudn't return - but maybe that's because I do like the rules of a CC site - we're 50 years young and love having our teens with us  so it's not a "set in my ways" comment - more I like just caravans and M/H's and the uniformity of how the CC is setup.

Please ask if you have any other questions

Hi NellieTheHooker, the advert on UKCS is a Classified Ad - if you email me on valdaathome@gmail.com I will post the link to you.  They are valid until the end of 2017 so plenty of time to use them.

There is a list of sites, here, on the Camping Cheques website.

As TammyGirl says, the ACSI Card is another useful 'discount' option with 44 sites in the UK.  Click the link for details.  When the euro was at 1.42 to the pound this made some sites really good value.  There are six sites at 15 euros, 15 sites at 17 euros and the remainder at 19 euros.  However, even at parity of pound to euro a quality commercial site for £19.00 all in is a reasonable deal.

    Happy holidays.
