Should the Club charge for Visitors
I raised this point on the now closed “How many cars on a pitch” post which is now closed. Anyway, I raised the point about visitors on club sites, should the club introduce a charge.
On some sites it appears more and more visitors turn up at the weekend. The best example from my experience would be Clumber Park where at weekends it has become the norm for family members to visit the site in large numbers. They caused issues with parking
with so many cars on the site that they were parked all along the access road. Then the noise from large groups, and I mean groups up to say 10 people on one pitch and on an extreme case someone was hosting a Birthday Party with goodness knows how many guests.
This all causes inconvenience to other club members who don’t want to be in the middle of what resembles a music festival. Those visitors are using the toilets, parking spaces and leave behind a large amount of waste. Would it not be appropriate to have a
limit on visitors and a charge to cover the additional costs? I used Clumber solely as an example this is happening on many club sites and not just at Clumber Park.

Thats a problem when threads are closed rather than running their course.
I presume you are meaning day visitors who do not spend the night on site? They avoid the person night charge and the £2 extra car charge but as you say, can be overloading the facilities.

Interesting point , but how would it be policed ! & by whom .
When we have visitors at any CC site , reception is informed of numbers & the likelihood of our long they intend to stay , I can't really see that happening 100 % by everybody .
I may be wrong ............

I agree it would be hard to police, however, in the extreme examples outlined it would not take much for the warden to walk round the site and see large groups and check if the day visitors had contributed for the services they were enjoying. If numbers
were limited it would also not be hard to see who was breaking the rule, it would be blatantly obvious.0 -
do hotels charge?

do hotels charge?
Yes, they would for the hire of the function suite. Don't think many hotels would allow guests to visit in large numbers and upset other guests. I am not talking about 1 or 2 people here I'm talking large groups.

I guess your Brothers don't turn up with a few cases of lager and large selection of food and a loud ghetto blaster. Then proceed to cook said food whilst shouting loudly whilst his children run round the hotel running around other guests tables screaming
and shouting. Then leave a huge pile of waste which the hotel has to pay to despose of? If so tell us the hotel chain so we can avoid )))0 -
One of the sites mentioned,"visitors" do not need to use the car park as the NT access road is often "cluttered" with parked cars, from which the "party goods"are off loaded and taken on to site without the decency of the "residents on site" to advise the site staff of their "guests"

I fear that charging for visitors would not stop the noisy crowds and hordes of people sat outside vans. They would just pay up and look happy.
I can honestly say I have never seen this scenario and can't see any problem with a member having a couple of visitors for a few hours. How many times are they going to use the facilities in that time? (On a non-facility site the answer will be none.) Who
is hoping to police the system and collect visitor fees when the office may well be closed and the warden off duty? Questions, questions, questions!0 -

It will be the same amount as a paying member would in the same time and would be the same with a facility or non facility site - one might be using the toilet block and the other the caravan but both will be generating the same.,
In the scenario I quoted on the other thread 'grandma and grandad' were the only paying users. The children who were dropped off each morning - as many as 12 we counted one day - who then went and had showers and used and abused the site and facilities -
were all free.Sometimes visitors leave their cars and inform the warden, often they dont - they park on the pitch.

I hazard to suggest that "looking after" a dozen children is actually "conducting a business from the site".

You sure you were pitched on a CC site and not in a school carpark 'bmb'

Many non CC sites do charge for day visitors some around £5 each visitor.

I don't think anyone has an issue with members having visitors on site. Its the number and behaviour of the visitors which are causing the issues
if I visit my parents they pop along to the site. Two of them arrive park on the street outside the site, walk to my Motorhome have a drink and chat, be it inside or outside the van then leave.
The issue I'm highlighting are the groups of visitors who arrive in mass and treat the site as if they were members (badly behaved ones at that) cooking their food, drinking their beer and allowing their ferrel children to play and do as they please provided
it's not near their van.0 -

Definitely - the behaviour would not have been allowed in a school carpark - a child dropping their pants and having a wee on the grass in the school car park wouldnt have been acceptable for example - but grandma and grandad didnt seem to have a problem!
My parents have visited us on sites before - they arrive and come into the caravan for then we eat or we go out - doesnt cause anyone else a problem but if there was a charge that wouldnt cause any problem either.

Have those of you who have experienced these unacceptable events talked to the wardens about it or taken the matter up with CC head office? I'd be interested to hear the official response.

In all my time on club sites I've never noticed any bad behaviour by visitors, not saying it doesn't happen but not on the sites I've been to.
In the past it was in laws visiting the kids, as they usually stayed off site, they certainly used the toilets but that was about it. As i said no one will visit now so the question doesn't affect me in the slighest, however I wouldn't want visitors to be charged (for what - a few flushes of the toilet? using the car park?) its good to see friends and families meeting up on site.

Like most things, they are generally acceptable in moderation. The definition of "too many guests" would vary from member to member but four would seem to be a reasonable number. Family/friends gathering of 10-20 people would be better accommodated in a
country park type venue that often have communal BBQ facilities and the like rather than on what is primarily a collection of temporary residences located in close proximity to one another.0 -

We left early and spoke to the lady deputy warden when we left explaining why - the people in the next motorhome also left early though whether they spoke to the warden I dont know. The warden was friends with grandma and grandad so I doubt he saw any problems.

So that achieved nothing
I really think it's something you should have raised direct with CC if it was bad enough to curtail your stay.
