Should the Club charge for Visitors
Comments

I raised an issue with CC about 5 -6 weeks ago. I was told it can take them (I think - not got the email with me) up to 4 weeks to reply. Still waiting.
Is it any wonder that people don't write to tbe CC and take the next best option and let off steam on here (and other forums)?

I think this is becoming a real problem on some sites, on site last Sunday in the North West there were more visitors on site then members. I would estimate up to 200 visitors with none reporting to reception but being let in through the barrier by the members, how can the Wardens police this and carry on with their duties.

I really think it's something you should have raised direct with CC if it was bad enough to curtail your stay.
We did - got a bland reply about wardens not being able to be everywhere on sites and thankyou for telling them.....a load of old tosh really. We avoided the site until the wardens changed, noted the number plate of grandma and grandad so we never pitched
near them again. The next time we went I spoke to the new wardens about it and they said they had had lots of complaints and grandma/grandad were now banned.0 -
In answer to the question on the thread title. On reading posts on this thread, it would appear that it would be in everybodys interest for the CC to make a charge for visitors.
We have to support the warden staff maintaing good order on the network. Tightening up the rules on visitor's behavior would definitely help.

Sounds to me from this thread and others I've read on here that CC top management aren't up to the job. I've had the 4 weeks reply to email before. That's not acceptable. Neither is the "fobbed off" reply quoted above. People will start going to some
of the private sites where regs are more strictly enforced. i.e. people asked to leave without compensation.0 -
I spoke with the Warden at one site, not in a complaining way, just as part of the chat and his reply was, "I know but what the hell can I do about it, I have 6 wardens and about 200 visitors"
I also spoke about it to a Warden who was at a site last year which has a big problem with visitors, his reply was, "nightmare, could not wait to get away from the site at the end of the season"
No point writing to the CC head office you just get a return e-mail a few month later full of words but saying nothing.

The reply to you from CC may have been wishy-washy but we have no idea what went on behind the scenes. Your complaint likely helped bring about the result.

I have been using CC sites for the last 35 years and in that time have used a fair number of them, some now long closed! I really don't recall an issue with visitors in fact I would say that I have not seen that many. Perhaps it happens more on certain sites and to that end it would be useful for contributors to name the sites so that we can either compare notes or avoid them altogether? I suspect there are far more people who go out from a site to visit relatives or friends than those that come to a Club site. Perhaps we need to remind ourselves that we are members of a Club and I would have thought one of those benefits should be that we can invite visitors to join us from time to time. As I understand the rules all visitors are required to report in at reception on arrival but I know that often they don't. If I know I am to receive a visitor I always inform reception in advance and I would have thought that was a common courtesy anyway.

With 200 visitors on a site (as reported above) who can say how many are not even visiting a member or paying public with an outfit on site? Just turn up and have a picnic/barbecue with free toilet and showers, kids play area (formal or just other folk's
pitches). and someone else to come along later to pick up all the rubbish you can leave.Card operated barriers and number codes on toilets are only restricting honest people.

IMHO, I feel there should be some restriction to the number of visitors, perhaps each pitch could 'sign in' (say) upto 4?
That sounds like a good plan. Occasionally - and I do stress that it is occasional - we have been disturbed by 'parties' in the awning where quite a few of the participants are visitors who have come to join the members for a
BBQ and a few ( or a lot of) drinks. They tend to get a bit loud and then there is also noise when they leave which is usually 10-11pm or later, particularly if cars are on the pitch.0 -
If this really is getting to be a problem then it is for the club to deal with it, not individual wardens.
It may be that Ts & Cs need to be ammended, to limit visitor numbers to say 6-8 per pitch, unless on very special occasions, and by prior written permission, larger numbers might be authorised. ( To take care of Birthday parties or Anniversaries). In such cases suitable time and noise constraints can be set by agreement.
NB Again, -If this is really getting to be a common problem then the Birthdays and Anniversaries might need to be limited to significant ones.

As I posted earlier in this thread, birthdays, anniversaries and large gatherings are better suited to country parks with communal BBQ picnic areas.

Clumber Park (not site) is used a lot for "parties" as is noted when coming from Appleyhead entrance along Lime Tree Avenue on the left side C/vans ,M/vans and Tents are often there as day visitors with several cars in attendance,
Ps have looked through pages of reviews of Clumber park site but no mention of the "problem" as an earlier post?

Write your comments here...Sorry but you are wrong and on this site it happens every weekend and is getting out of control on a regular basis.

It would be interesting to know what site this is and what size. Also as J with a J put if any local event was in progress. Even if it is a very large site, 200 would mean say 4 visitors per pitch, if 25% had visitors. My overall impression in 11 years on
lots of sites is that 25% would be very high. So let's have a name and info on possible local events please.0 -
As too Clumber we use it quite a lot to set up our van prior to a trip. This is often at a weekend as we like to travel on a Sunday. Certainly if the car park is anything to go by there are quite a few visitors in the day. However, I would not say many stay
on into the evening, and I think they often meet to go into the park anyway. More often the noisy groups seem to be where several vans have got together in one awning. Personally, if wasn't so convenient from home for sorting out the van, I would avoid it
at weekends.0 -

I'd also like to know where it is, to ensure that we avoid it.

The site I was refering to was also Clumber Park. The last visit was during the bank holiday weekend and thats when the real issues were observed with large amount of visitors, as someone else said a number of people group vans together then friends arrive and they have a large party. A Birthday party was also going in which entailed all the guests arriving and associated noise well on to around 11pm.
The Warden tried hard to close the childrens play area, but parents dont want children around them to spoil their parts so were sending them back out.

As quoted to our friends once when we all stayed at an AS site,"We have a big abvantage over you (cc wardens) in that if we have problems with anyone we can just tell them to p*** off, without the problems you would have when they whinge to HO with their
distorted account"0
