Cars per pitch
Has probably been discussed before but cannot find anything. Is there a rule about how many cars can be parked on a pitch. I thought it was 1 car per pitch except for motorhomes towing a small car. I am currently keying this while looking at 2 vehicles on
the next pitch

Just the few discussions lately about rules not being applied got me thinking and I was just after clarification. Many years ago on this same site I was told (not asked) to move my van approx 9 inches after the warden watched us set it all up first

Got to be surely!

Is this a wind up?

Phil, the only way to get a definitive answer would be to contact the CC direct. My opinion is-one car per pitch or pay for another one, if not paid for then it has to be parked in a recognized carpark. That is personal opinion based only on what I think

" f. Anyone visiting someone staying on site will need to see the Site Staff on arrival to ensure their stay is safe. The Site Staff may allow visitors' cars to be parked within the pitch they're visiting. If staying overnight a fee for both visitors
and their cars will be charged."This is all I can find in the club site rules. We have had two cars on a pitch: I work full time but OH is retired, so a few times at weekends he will tow the van and set up at lunchtime, and I zoom up to join him the minute I am released. At Durham I parked
in the visitor car park, at Old Hartley I left my car outside on the grass and at Whitewater the warden was quite happy for me to put my car on the pitch as it did not affect fire gap. So it depends0 -
I have often (selfishly no doubt according to some) had two cars on one pitch. There is a cost, the last time was £2 per day. When asked if I could the warden asked for my pitch number has he had to check if the extra car could fit physically and also didn't
breach the 3m spacing in any direction.0 -
SteveL found this link for second car or boat on pitch:

We often have two cars on pitch. Last site we were on we didnt, we put the second car in the car park, but next door had two cars, one on the grass across the back of their caravan.
We used to be charged for the second car but I think this has been dropped now and as long as you can fit them on your pitch it is fine.
It doesnt cause anyone else a problem so I dont really see what the OP's point is to be honest.

Having two cars (and often an awning as well!) on a pitch is over-crowding, very selfish and shouldn't be allowed.
At York Rowntree, I seem to remember a sign or maybe in the handout they give you, saying one car per pitch. Any visitors to use local public car parks. Very sensible.

...notwithstanding the OP's specific issue re cars 'allowed' on a pitch, what is the 3m spacing regarding, say, a car and another car on the same pitch? do they need to be 3m apart?
if not, it seems a bit odd that they must be 3m from a unit (caravan) on the next pitch, but not from their own unit(?) or from each other...
do fires only spread from caravan to caravan and not from one burning car to another, or to an immediately adjacent caravan?
surely, ALL flammable 'items' (cars, caravans, MH) must be the minimum distance from each other, not just from those same items but on another pitch?
ive often wondered why a car can be parked right up against a caravan on the same pitch (where a fire could spread form one to another) yet rules between pitches are different.
a fire breaks out in a car on a pitch, those in the caravan right next to it burn....apparently ok....those on the next pitch escape due to the 3m rule....apparently ok.....
as long as the fire remains on one pitch....apparently ok....the containment rules will have worked....
all cars in the car park well away from caravans and MH seems a far more 'safe' situation.....

A warm welcome back K, it's good to see you back up to your usual posting levels. I do hope you have sorted your issues that Merve informed us of a few weeks ago

Occasionally we have had 2 cars on site, but one was always left in the visitors car park. I agree that 2 cars on a pitch can give the appearance of overcrowding, especially with an awning in use, but since it is down to folks'
choice and, as I believe, they pay for the second car
I don't see how it can possibly be regarded as selfish. Another example of things which occur very infrequently but give some an opportuninty to jump up and down and stamp their feet!0 -
Is it not time for the Club sites to have a weekly Fire Drill on a 'worst scenario' basis ? such as -
Fire drills to take place at 2.00am every Sunday morning and all occupants to exit their vans through the windows, escaping through a door will not be allowed.

On topic, the club charges a fee for a second car (or boat) when the 3m spacing allows.

One car only permitted on pitches at Burrs Country Park.

...but, again, this is 3m from any other flammable item on another pitch.....not 3m from any other flammable item (say, on the same pitch).
this is from the next outfit, 6m between carvans, 3m between the next outfit. An outfit is classed as car, caravan, awning, and as there is the possiblity of an extra car or boat, they are also included.
Are you really being obtuse BB, you expect 3m from a car to caravan? You'll be wanting 3m from caravam to awning as well.
Anyway as it's another of the rules you have signed up for, but want to change, you'll just have to live with it

I think you've answered your own question BB, the idea is to stop fire spreading to the next pitch. It is totally nonsense to have 3m between everything on a single pitch.

Obviously one family burning to death is acceptable but more than one is carelessness
