     it's a club actually

Do you really believe that? The Cambridge dictionary defines a club as ''an organization of people with  common purpose or interest, who meet regularly and take part in shared activities:''

I dont see it as a club in any way that  even approximates to that definition. The doesnt mean I dont like what is offers - We use quite a lot of club sites because I like the fact that if you go to a club site what you get is fairly consistent - even if not exciting.  We use CLs as well but usually prefer ones we, or someone we know, has checked out in advance

I like what the 'club' offers but I dont think it is now really a 'club' at all.

I would tend to agree on the club thing. However, to me it matters not if it is a club or commercial organisation. If it has regulations, that I accept at the time of booking, I have no problems with compliance. If I did I would not use the organisation.

Why do folk cut off their nose to spite their face? Surely if you want to visit a particular area and you want to stay there on a club site you accept the conditions including pitching arrangements? If you're not prepared to do that you stay somewhere different.
    Not difficult is it? Undecided

“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”

“Know the rules well, so you can break them effectively.”
    Dalai Lama XIV

“You’ll learn, as you get older, that rules are made to be broken. Be bold enough to live life on your terms, and never, ever apologize for it. Go against the grain, refuse to conform, take the road less travelled instead of the well-beaten path. Laugh in the face of adversity, and leap before you look. Dance as though EVERYBODY is watching. March to the beat of your own drummer. And stubbornly refuse to fit in.”
Mandy HaleThe Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass

“The greatest crimes in the world are not committed by people breaking the rules but by people following the rules. It's people who follow orders that drop bombs and massacre villages.”
    BanksyWall and Piece

“Any fool can make a rule
And any fool will mind it.”
    Henry David ThoreauJournal #14

Just a few comments about rules.  I wonder why so many notable people think this way.

Because they all have / had anarchic tendencies.

Anarchy definition :- a state of disorder due to absence or non-recognition of authority or other controlling systems.

But hey, we are talking about parking next to a peg so perhaps a little anarchy is ok.

Some rules/laws are put into place and really we have no choice but to follow them, they are imposed on us from a higher authourity such as the government.

However the thing is that when you join the club, of your own free will I assume, you sign and agree to abide by the rules, it's a condition of joining/membership. Why join if you don't want to follow the rules, or indeed why stay?

Totally agree. I am sure we can all point to rules that we think could be improved. However, if you have signed up to abide by those rules, protest to the CC by all means and advocate change, don't just go and break them.

Write your comments here...why is that?  If rules are broken they are broken not anarchic at all just some popele want to pick and choose which ones they want to obey i.e. I will pitch to the peg when I arrave at 11:00 so whats the diffference in arriving
at 12 and pitching to suit your personal preference?  Both scenarios break rules....

There are as you point out other reasons for being a member, I share ET's view of the pitching regime on club sites and like him dont (or hardly ever) use the sites. It does not follow that I shouldnt be a member though and with 2 expensive ferry bookings, red
pennant and caravan and house insurance  I probably contribute more to the Caravan Club coffers than most of the members and I might even be susidising their site fees.

Write your comments here... really how on earth do you work that out  I would have thought all members contribute , after all we are all one big happy family

God there's some big chips laying around

I thought it might be worth pointing out how much I spend and why I dont need your permission to remain a customer of this leisure company.Happy

Write your comments here... it's a club actually & obviously some members have a very high opinion of their  individual contribution I guess

No it's not.  It’s a limited company that calls itself a club; however, any profits are supposed to be ploughed back in for the benefit of the so called members.

The Caravan clubq is like all succesfull organisations with a healthy turnover are req ,I think, by law to register as a Ltd Company and all profits are reinvested in the club for as is noted by the membership figures the satisfaction of the majority

Trouble is with common sense, everyone has a different idea of what is acceptable.  That is why the CC has rules, that I say again, if you are staying on a club site you have agreed to follow. No where in the fine print does it say with appropriate common sense.

Do you think the people that moved their cars etc. to avoid them being damaged by the recent fire on a club site would have stuck to the speed limit?  Also I have not seen a rule or fine print saying that I cannot use common sense
    on site.

I am afraid that smacks of a desperate attempt to justify breaking the rules you have accepted.

Write your comments here...I was one that did move my car to safety on the night of the motorhome fire and Yes I did adhere to the speed limit, simply because I may have hit other campers walking and leaving their caravans at the same time...I consider that
a sensible decision and I did not panic in doing so.... SG2

Surely parking next to tbe peg is required in order to provide a reasonable spacing, from both a safety and a privacy point of view.

Are some people seriously saying that they don't think that either of these things are important?

I firmly believe that there are only two reasons to ignore this rule.......either not being bright enough to understand it, or simply wanting to deliberately break the rule because of a 'nobody tells me what to do' attitude (even though ignoring it gains them nothing).

Incidently, we always pitch the caravan within a couple of inches of the peg (either way) and have never has a problem opening the car doors when parked next to the caravan. For the doors to hit the caravan wall, I would have needed to drive over the Aquaroll
and wastemaster to get that close.

Ah, but Ian, you get more practice than some of us at pitching to the peg on CC sites don't you!! LaughingLaughing

( But, being serious for a moment - shame- I do agree with you; it's such an easy rule not to break, why do it?)

Glad that you are more able than I am Ian!! I need to open the door wide to swing my leg out even though I can walk a reasonable distance and do not appear disabled. OH is the same. She cannot raise her leg climbing styles but can probably walk more than
6 miles. Needs space to enter the car as do I.

We can open both doors fully when pitched correctly........as I said, the car has to be a fair distance from the caravan anyway, to miss the Aquaroll.

I am fine with the rules we signed up for when we joined, if they were enforced fully it would be great - all arrivals after the specified time, 5mph, no ball games etc . The ones I dislike are  the random ones imposed by draconian wardens on individual
    sites.

On some sites so can I. But not all pitches if on hard standing and avoiding wheels on the grass.
