Whats not to like....great people, lovely weather, loads of space, great food and wine, cheap sites, open roads, cheap fuel, wonderful scenery.....just like the uk only different
Not sure about the open roads or the cheap fuel over here though.

We have used a handful of AS sites over the years, most were as good as or even a little better than Club sites, and had very similar facilities, rules and prices, so similar you could easily think you were on a Club site. The main difference being that there are no wardens doing everything, but rather reception, cleaning and gardening staff.
The main drawback we found was the need to pay a deposit on booking, so when we do use them we do not book too far ahead.
When we went abroad in the late 90s/early 2000s, we did book sites through the Club for the first 4 years as we were going in school holidays, but since then we have just used ACSI/CC book etc as we now only go low season.
We usually never stay anywhere longer than a week, often only 3 or 4 nights, and never pay a deposit, so if a site does not come up to our requirements,it is easy to move on if necessary.
However, we go for location first, and have all our own facilities, so are not that bothered about actual site facilities.
Corners, you stay nearer to the ferries than we do, and there is no need to drive huge distances on "the other side" to get a flavour of things. I know you are limited to school holidays at present, and at that time pitch prices abroad can, like here be high (though not on all sites), so a package holiday possibly makes sense. It would not have suited us as we like to explore, not stay in one place too long.
Once you are free of the shackles of employment, you may find that it becomes more attractive to consider taking your van "over there" for long trips. Longer trips with van or MH work out much cheaper than hotels, and much cheaper per night than short trips.

K, "abroad is more of an adventure" try 'rock climbing/mountaineering' in your homeland-corking adventure to be had
Agree with you about "adventures" I tried rock climbing once, it scared me and didnt like it on the other hand I have been "over there" over 40 times now and dont find it in the least bit scary or adventurous to visit another European country but then
we dont visit unstable countries in North Aftrica or the ex Soviet Union that might fall into the adventure categoryI need to pull you up there AD, North Africa isn't(to me) adventurous to visit its suicidal

Hello AD, there is my option too - I haven't the faintest idea what Club sites cost and don't care.

couldnt agree more you cant possibly compare o/seas pitch prices with those in the uk by the time you take ferry prices into consideration and insurance, and fuel, sites in britain must work out much cheaper
Don't people use fuel in Britain?

I do not think anyone would say tbe CC are perfect, nothing is that and I doubt many use CC sites exclusively. For us the club sites are what we are looking for and we use them extensively but we are aware of the alternatives and the clubs failings like
many others.0 -
I've just had a thought-maybe folk use CC sites because they like them, because they want to, because they prefer to. What business
it is of others is beyond me, the fact they are being questioned as to why is just stupid & disgusting too.0 -
...Nearly 200 different places cannot be in anyones mind be classed as "going to the same places each year" and that is without the extra areas that the cl network gives and I would think most of us who post on here have tried "other"sites here and "over there" just my thoughts also

I hold my hands up and admit that I have either not read all posts on this thread or, just as likely forgotten many.
I think that it can be seen that many feel that they are prepared to pay what the CC charges (outside main school hols perhaps for some) because the sites offer what they want. Others either do not like what the sites offer or else feel that the charges
are higher than they wish to pay on a regular basis. The simple fact seems to me to be that the sites are generally well used.0 -

not for so eone who lives in the south of the UK and holidays is, say, Normandy....it will be cheaper than taking the same holiday in the north of england or scotland....
If cost is a consideration then there must be a break even point regardin suration of trip abroad?

I've had lots of reports from this thread over the last couple of days, of argumentative and off topic posts. This thread will remain closed while I investigate the issue.
Thank you

Hi everyone,
I’ve removed argumentative posts from this thread. Unfortunately I do think this thread has run its course, and will remain closed. There is another thread discussing pitch prices
here, if you would like to discuss further. Please remember to stick to the community guidelines when posting! Thanks all
