I agree with the inclusiveness of smokers. I had smokers(most of em) in my felling team(Tree felling) we would chew the fat, relax, smoke ciggys, but discuss the job at hand. If I insisted they didn't smoke I'd not have gotten half the input & discussion
I got. I may not be a smoker but I was a listener & a respectful boss who got the most out of employees/smokers.

......or maybe they were just taking tbe mick. And you fell fot it.......

Spoken like a true employee, when you run a successful business you surround yourself with a trustworthy team, that team works well. The bottom line reflects that-a successful companyHappy

No Ian, I sold it & retired at 52, climbing Trees & doing 12hr days are for the young. Thankfully the folk who bought my company shared my attitude to smokers, so it was a good result for all concernedHappy

I would have thought that people lighting fags and flinging dog ends down among brushwood and sawdust in forests and hedgerows would be a dangerous practice.

Forestry activity and lighting inflamable material is in my opinion poor judgement.

Forests are a precious resource , to risk starting forest fire by smoking at work is a dangerous activity

Imo---- if a caravanner wants to smoke in their own caravan on a CC site. They have a perfect right to do so.

K, the majority of smokers are intelligent 'risk aware' individuals . I nor anyone I know have ever burnt down a Copse/Wood or Forest yet. The old days of fags hanging out of the corner of someone's mouth whilst working are long gone thankfully. Having faith
& confidence in my fellow man is something I find easy to do, I guess I'm lucky to have my faith reciprocatedHappy

We had a workman years ago who needed to move the main gas pipe. I didnt know but he should have asked the gas board to do it but he did it himself. As he started to deal with it - fag still in his mouth - I elected to take myself, the children and the dog,
out for a nice long walk.  Came back and it was all done :-)

Same area where someone could smell gas from a mains pipe, the gas men came and taped over the leak, said it would be fine till morning.   Happy Days!

This forum is amazing sometimes! Laughing

I can hardly believe it, but here we have someone who genuinley claims that having his workforce stop working at regular intervals, to partake in a habit that will, in all probability, shorten their lives and make their final years decidedly unpleasant.....and
at the same time put other people's lives at risk.....and he puts this forward as a positive thing!

Nice one Rocky! Keep 'em coming! Wink

This forum is amazing sometimes!Happy I write something, someone reads it then proceeds to quote me with things I never said, then sarcastically
continues. As a wage slave Ian it will be difficult for you to understand the workings of a succesessful company. It ain't the Guy who owns it, it's the workforce. Tip-don't make stuff up it's untrustworthy & very wrongSad

OH looks after our local guide hall, a few years back they had some trees almost blown down in a storm.

Long story short......they had some idiot inflicted on them (by an interested party) who supposedly knew about dealing with trees,

Apart from dismantling  the neighbour's fence to drop the trees onto her land, and cutting off a branch while sitting on it, this guy also filled petrol(?) into the tank of his chain saw while smoking a cigarette.

    OH sacked them.

I think Rockys basic point was that a happy workforce who have management who give and take is a productive one.  We all have vices and habits that others dont like but its not for (most) us to take the moral high ground all the time.

I agree with Rocky. It is very important to keep ones workforce happy, whether it be with a fag or a bacon sandwich.

Also for information it is nigh impossible to ignite petrol with a cigarette. It only happens in films.
