warare are resonablie new to caravaning, we have been keeping local aka yorkshire and up to now have enjoyed the sites we have visited, most have been private but have a few with cc booked in futer. we both work shifts so when we have a weekend of we book
to go away, haven were doing good deals £18 a night, arrived at our pitch to find we could not put the weekend awning up due to a mud pool in front of the caravan door, could not get the caravan straite as the tilit was so bad, the eggs ran like mad in the
frying pan, the clientel left a lot to be desired fighting swearing, not frendly people at all, never again, over 5o's adult only from now on

Oh dear, that's put the cat amongst the pigeons!

You have my sympathy; we too have had some bad experiences at private sites and now we only use the if we've been before and know they're good or if they'he been personally recommended. Hope you have better luck with future bookings - have you tried the
CC site at Hawes? Would be quite handy for you - very good, level hard standing pitches in a fabulous setting. Happy

Write your comments here...That is the problem, if you lower the the price every ruff and scruff trancend to it, these people you encounterd are the sole reason I will not go near a beach site, and if the sun shines it is even worse.

There are those who walk amongst us who would wish to emulate much that happens on the commercials.

Thank goodness for the differences this touring club offers. Thank goodness for no minimum nights, not having to book specific pitches from what is left, choosing pitch on a first come basis and finally for documented wardens discretion when circumstances
    allow!

What I dont understand about that site is that there are great gaps in between many reports, some of more than a few years. To me that cant be reliable. Seems as though their site reports are dwindling of late.

Haven come across as a large organisation which relies on "bums on seats" rather than customer satisfaction.

    Not my cup of tea.

In fairness, though, I think some Haven sites might be quite good at some times! Wink

I like when people are honest and straight to the point. I've never been to a Haven site but if they are as dreadful as portrayed on this thread I wont go near them.

At least with the C&CC and the CC sites you always get a decent standard of site with a reasonable standard of clientel.

C&cc sites tend tend to be more laid back and friendly whereas Cc sites are populated by a fair amount of curtain twitchers and Warden botherers.

The C&CC wardens tend to monitor their sites and quickly deal with any infringement of the rules, whereas the CC wardens have something called Warden's discretion which means that if they wish they can turn a blind eye.

I'm a member of both clubs so I can be totally impartial.

We've got a lot in common, you know, K! We've just stayed on a fabulous C&CC site in Polstead and a CS in Norfolk. You are right, being members of both clubs certainly gives you as much choice as you could possibly wish for! Happy

A bit of an over generalisation but largely true. There are some CCwardens the equal of any C&CC sites wardens.

Never stayed on a Haven site as they don't appeal to us at all.  We are members of both clubs, but our main holiday this year will be on a commercial site.  Expensive ... but worth every penny in our opinion Happy

We have stayed at three "commercial" sites this year. Nothing particularly wrong with any of them but in terms of general quality none of them matched the general quality of Club sites. We tend to select sites for their location so we accept the difference
but first choice would always been a Club site if its in the right area.

And so do at least two in Devon - Ross Park and Woodovis for starters.

I would not class Haven sites as typical commercial operations. Barge Pole and wouldn't touch come to mind. South Meadows just south of Haggerston is a good site as is Ross Park in Devon which I think sets the standards the CC
should emulate. The smaller privately owned commercial sites in our experience are generally excellent.

The important thing in my view is diversity, keep the differences  and keep the choice! One way will suit some while other ways will suit, well, others!

I for one like that notion of membership and knowing that fellow members sign up to the same as I do. Those that disagree with 'our' ways can of course just put up or go elsewhere.

    Surely that's right isn't it?

I'm finding this rather strange, we have 2 threads running at the moment. One is telling us how great the Haven sites are, while this thread is doing the complete opposite. So which is it, or is it a case that at certain times of the year Haven are OK and at others (holiday periods) they are not.

As I suggested, each to their own, one man's poison, can't please everyone! Thank goodness we are all different and that different options are out there and available.

Alas my experience of a Havan site was not good.Whilst it  was good for children the pitching situation for tourers was god awful.Pitches totally devoid of grass and very badly laid out.No real security and people about at all hours Sad.Not good.

Only ever stayed on a Haven site in a static, but found some sites were better than  others.  Some friends stayed on one near Mablethorpe in their van a couple of years ago, during August,  came home and said
    never again!

Interesting that The Old Oaks and Ross park have been mentioned. They are two of the private sites we've stayed at where we'd happily return to and which I agree have a better standard than the raditional club sites. Another is waterrow Park, also in Somerset.

On the other hand I could (but won't) give a whole list of private sites which we've been to having seen their website but which turned out to be so dire that we wouldn't consider using them again!

I can really recommend two private sites here in Scotland. Braemar and North Ledaig.  Both are well run and in scenic locations. So not all private sites are to be avoided.
