Are sun canopies allowed on non awning pitches.
We are new to the CC and are doing a tour in a few weeks. We have booked Old Hartley ,7 nights and Beechwood Grange at York, for 4 nights. As we booked Old Hartley first a non awing site,I followed suit for York booking a none awing pitch. But now we
are thinking of getting a Isabella Shadow, nice and easy to use.

It's all about spacing, CB. You need to maintain 6m between cvans/MHs and 3m between ancillary equipment. That is, there needs to be 3m between your awning and next door's car/awning. On a non-awning pitch the answer is likely to be 'no'.
MHs can use roll out canopies on non-awning pitches but might not be able to fully unwind them. The ultimate decision rests with the warden.

Thanks for the replies as the Shadow is only 2mtrs deep I would have thought a MH windout is a lot deeper. I will have to see how it goes.

We are of to the Battle site over the bank holiday and the only pitches left were non awning pitches ,but I will ask the warden on site if we can use it ,or at least try it out for a couple of hours as the M/H is new to us
i think in cases like this ,it's always best to ask the warden ,as he/she knows their site best

Check with the warden, CB. Better still, try to change your booking to an awning pitch as BB suggested. There'll be no question about it then.

If memory serves me right, I don't think there are any awnings or sun canopies allowed at Old Hartley, as the pitch spacing is so tight. Might be a few pitches on edges. Some pitches have separate parking spots! Best idea is to check with Wardens before
you go. I certainly can't remember seeing any awnings or canopies in use when we visited.0 -

my motorcaravan wind-out is only as deep as I wind it out! Often just a metre or so (less than the width of that car I don't have with me!

I think it is fine to use your canopy on any none awning pitch as long as it is wound in every night, so can be used as sun//rain shade and BBQ cover.

Bolero Boy has the right answer CB, also, as Tinwheeler states, you need to maintain the regulatory distance between units, to include parked cars etc. As has also been stated, you may not be able to deploy your wind out to its maximum length, its all about spacing. TDA is also correct in stating that Old Hartley is now all non awnning pitches, this happened about two years ago when they redesigned some of the pitches. Hope this helps ...
Edit, you do not need to wind in at night if you don't want to.

Posted by a staff member when previously discussed:
"Standard Pitch Without Awning
Members cannot use awnings of any shape or size (including porch awnings) on this pitch type.
Motorhomes can use a wind-out sun shade as long as a 3 metre fire separation is maintained.
Members may be asked to wind the canopy in sufficiently to achieve the 3 metre gap."
Hope this helps I saved the post incase we have any problems in the future, however we usually book an awning pitch to give extra room.
Most people do not wind out a canopy at Whitley bay as the site is on a cliff top and usually to windy, as TTDA says most of the pitches are a little close together hence the whole site was made non awning, if you are lucky enough to be at the very bottom
of the site by the fence the pitches there are a little more spacious and you could put a wind out canopy out but be warned it does get very windy.0 -
Park you car under the canopy - simples !!

So can I put my awning up but leave the walls out and call it a sun canopy?

you could try....
but you would have a car with you, or would you be parking your car under your sideless awning?? Motorcaravanans can't put sun canopies out if they have a car with them on a Non awning pitch!

Hmmm.... Dont think it would fit under the porch awning ...but.... the full awning is 3m deep so no problems.

Keep a sharp weather eye for the wind HD; not wishing to rain on your parade, but we have seen a couple of MH awnings damaged by sudden strong winds. I know it's your first time out with the MH, so please be careful, you want to be able to remember it as
a nice experience.Hope you have a nice weekend, it's exciting, the first trip in a new MH; and a steep learning curve too.
