When we tour Europe if there is a meter then we just rely on our solar generated power and gas. The next CL we are going to has a elec meter but we won't be hooking up

EHU meters are quite common on the continent, ie Germany and Belgium to name but 2.  We personally have no need of EHU with a solar panel, so don't always bother taking EHU.

Is it fair? Well, people have a choice and you've said yourself that you managed for 3 nights without EHU.  Some might say that having a meter could make users more careful about how much they use, whereas on a flat rate, some people will use anything and
everything, because they've paid for it.

As to how much meters charge, I don't know anything about that.  I did think there was something about the resale of electricity some years ago which is why the CC stopped offering the choice of whether people wanted EHU or not, but I don't know the finer
    points of that.

The Spanish site we use charges €0.35 per Kw would love to know what per Kw a UK site is allowed to charge?

Average UK price is approx 14p/kWh (doesn't include any contribution to standing charge of £70/yr which would be 20p/day) from:

    http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/corporate/our-calculations

By my calculation your Spanish rate is 28p/kWh!

Yes, Spain has domestic electricity prices which are among the highest in Europe, and UK is among the cheapest.

I’d go for that as long as they installed coin operated showers at the same time so I wasn’t subsidising someone’s shower.

Good one Whittakerr and R2B!  We also both have shortish hair, why should I sub someone with longer hair (male of female) to selfishly use a 2Kw hair dryer?

the point is we all use electricity in a number of ways that might seem selfish to someone else. provided we keep to the 16A limit and don't abuse the use of it, let everyone enjoy their holiday the way they want.

Installing meters on site would prove expensive and disruptive, both at first installation and on leaving the site, and probably wouldn't see a decrease in power use.

provided the water isnt wasted, whats the difference, usage (cost?) wise in a MH er filling one 200 ltr tank or a caravanner filling 5 X 40 ltr Aquarolls over, say, a week?

why is either being 'subsidised' by the other?

BB, it wasn't serious, it was irony. I'm a big advocater of choice & no extra chargesHappy

I think the administration of all these different charges would prove too much of a burden for the wardens and the costs would outweigh the benefits.

I would suggest an all inclusive fee for the use of the pitch, EHU, water, toilet / shower block and all other site services.

Its all very well not hooking up but then you have to use bottled gas for cooking and more importantly running the fridge. Bottled gas is not the cheapest form of energy and a fridge uses a lot of it. It can empty a bottle in about a week or so which could
work out at more expensive than using electricity.

A 6kg bottle of propane contains 83 kWh by my calculations If it cost £20 then that's about 24p/kWh.

I paid £12.32 for 11Kgs (21.66lts) of LPG on Sunday and that was 2p a litre over the odds just for the sake of stopping at a convenient garage on the way home.

12.4p/kWh, a little less than domestic electricity, perhaps the same if you include an element of the standing charge?

If thats a refillable system you have the capital cost of that to be written off over the number of refills or time until it needs replacing?

Yes it is a Gaslow 2x11Kgm system but so convenient. Saves lugging heavy bottes about and I don't have to bother with foreign bottles when on the Continent.
