Black Knowl CC site!
Having booked a pitch some while ago, I received at 4.30 pm a phone all from the Warden at Black knowl, cancelling my booking.
This was a Solos meet with new Solos coming along for the first time. We were all booked in between today and 31st March, leavinsoon 4th April at the latest.
I do know a few have already arrived, and other either on route or had their bookings cancelled. What makes it worse, is I have NO information about these people, telephone numbers, surnames nothing! This is not good for Solos as it looks like we book and
then cancel and leave them stranded!
Rant over??? No! I am absolutely spitting fire!
It was the Caravan Club that cancelled my booking, now the CC is saying I cancelled within 72 hours of arrival and that it's one strike against may name! Bloody Cheek! Guess Whois getting a phone call first thing in the morning!

Something similar happened to us when booked into Chatsworth a while ago. The reason was bad weather (site closed) and the site cancelled inside the 72 hours. We were VERY annoyed to get the "one strike" email. We emailed back and complained, "strike" was
cleared and an apology given. We still think they were a bit hot off the mark and wonder if the site had notified HQ. We probably weren't the only ones to be treated this way in this case0 -
Vivien, sorry to hear the news but did it occur to you that the pending weather forecast may have contributed to a health and safety hazard as the site is enclosed in the New Forest surrounded by Trees.which could have caused agreat deal of inconvenience.I
agree a reason should be given and responsibility not directed towards you but it may well have been a reason. SG20 -
The warden said the pitches (hard standing) were flooded! Now, the weather forecast has just said a rouge shower tomorrow then as of Thursday onwards the weather was going tbe be dry.
I know the site, yes! The surrounding fields and Heath do get wet, but drains virtually over night when it doesn't rain?
i bet you, come Friday the flooded pitches will be put back up to book!
This is not the first time I have had booking cancelled last minute dot com! In fact I am getting increasingly angry with it! Is it because I am a Solos so they wouldnt make much money from pitch fee's?? I was cancelled from going to the New Forest site, I did turn up without my car and they were letting people on site! Why was that one cancelled, nt one wet pitch could be seen as I walked the site!
well, I am going to visit the site virtually every day of my would have been stay as I have managed to get into a CL in Sway!
i am sorry, a hard standing pitch with a little puddle is No cause to cancel, it should still be offered but with a warning there may be a puddle on the pitch!

Vivien, sorry this has happened but I suspect the river (Ober Water) which runs close to the site has probably flooded as well and I expect some of the the access route might be under water. We have seen badly flooded pitches and nearby road ways when on the site, they would be unusable. I expect the C & CC site over the road is flooded too as it's right by the river.

I am suspicious that they cancelled my booking because I am Solos and they won't make the money that a family can!

I realised it wasn't as bad as I thought it was when I read the bit in solos....we arrived at BK once and had the last harstanding which had been flooded earlier in the morning and then had drained quite quickly. Have they overbooked and not been able to
use the grass pitches yet wonder?!0 -
I do not understand how the "solo" system works I take they do not have a "leader", did the warden explain why they were cancelling your booking? aand did you try to explain your role in the matter?
Write your comments here... Solos is not a Club, it's a way for Solos people to go away and meet others. I had several people coming along who were first time away on their own,
I had explained to the warden that people were there on their own and I was meeting them, the reply was, it's not their problem. She did say she would tell those there that I was not going to be one site. As far as I know she has done that because one lady I do keep in touch me has got back, hence I know the site is not flooded!
So every day I will commute to and fro from the CL to the site. I WILL NOT let people down!

JVB66 oh yes! I have a very nice camera with a even better lens on it!
Michael, the meet will run, I am in a CL now in Sway, so it's about 2 1/2 miles down the road. I am on the site at the top of the page number 368, which is now fully booked, but there are a few others local. I will travel up to the site. There are a few
already on site, Carolyn is Already there.0 -
After a very nice South African gent took my call at CC HQ, he spoke to his manager and I have to put in a formal complaint as there is no known reason for my cancellation. Black knowl has no record of flooding where the New Forest ( Centenary) site has.
My booking was offered to be reinstated but as i now have a booking at a CL ( and being independant need our income) i said no! Although he did say it might not be wise to rebook!

I am disgusted at what I found at Black Knowl CC site tonight!
On arrival ALL hardstanding pitches are full! Even the one that I was pushed off that was suppose to be flooded!
There never was any flooded pitches, one gravel pitch only had a puddle which had disapeared over night and is now occupied. I have spoken to several people on site to confirm this! So, I have been lied too!
I am not amused at all!

Viv, we go there every November for the last 10 years and never seen it flooded , yes the odd puddle ,but nothing to stop the hard standing being used ,it seems there is more to this ,as you say because you are only one person ,and it looks like the Club
could make more profit from cancelling your booking with a feeble excuse and rebooking a family0 -
Hello Vivien, its terrible what the CC have done to you, do you know who it was it decided to canel your booking which was no doubt made some months ago.
I've been on this site in the summer and had very heavy rain but it soon cleared overnight.
I, think the people in Grinstead Towers should come out and truthfully tell the members what took place, it will no doubt happen again.

I have spoken to an ex warden on the phone and his take is that it would not be who had booked, but the dates of the bookings, with the wet weather recently and the site just opening, some of the grass pitches would have been unusable, bookings would be cancelled on last boolkings cancelled first, and as Black Knowle is a very popular site bookings would be heavy on "frenzy day"

I was told by CCHQ only hard standings were available for the time I had booked. I had booked way in advance, other on site had booked after me.
CCHQ knew nothing about any possible flooding which clearly there was not! Why would a site be fully booked and my booking cancelled?
I find this situation discusting! If pitches were flooded why fill them?? Where is my NOT flooded pitch?? Why did they relet it if it was flooded??
I know that part of the New Forest very well! If the ground in the area was really very wet, the ford in Brockenhurst would have water, Today that was bone dry!! Not a drip in the ford at all!
I smell one hell of a big smelly fish!

This is quite dreadful indeed. Any of the "members" could arrive at a site where the thought they had a booking and be turned away. There won't always be space at a CL, especially if the arrival was just before 8pm. I suppose sometime I agreed to some terms
and conditions that allows this to be done, but it is shamefull conduct.Without going in to conspiracy mode I wonder if there was a phone call to the site from someone who is pally with the warden looking for a pitch and you looked like an easy mark to bump off?

We were there for two nights from the 23rd of August last year on a hardstanding pitch. After very heavy overnight rain our pitch had a couple of inces of water on it. The people behind us, on a grass pitch, had their awning flooded and the wardens were
digging a trench to release the water. I think as part of the upgrade process for this site the drainage is being looked at.David

And that's not going into conspiracy mode?
Write your comments here... If they were flooded out, witch they weren't, why did CCHQ offer to reinstate my booking as there were pitches available???
I think my smelly fish has turned to a very large stinking RAT

..Are there "new" wardens there this year and recognised your name from a "previose"visit to a site

If there were other solo's on site or due to arrive how come none of them were cancelled? were you the only one booked that got cancelled. It does seem to have a lot of questions that require a proper explanation.
Write your comments here...i told the wardens I was in a group of Solos. I was told my cancellation was my problem!
yes! Mine was the only one they cancelled That I know of, I would just love to know why! Probably because 'B' is at the top of the alphabet perhaps, so would be at the top of the pending arrivals list?? But why was the site full last night? Why no flooded pitches???

Vivien, it certainly does need to be properly investigated. We all know that there is always a very small chance of having a booking cancelled, but we trust that it is handled fairly and equally to all parties. If you were the
only person who's booking was cancelled then I think you are right to be suspicious. I very much doubt that any warden would cancel just 1 pitch because it was flooded,
looking at when you booked there must have been someone who booked after you, if that is the case then they should have been cancelled not you. As you say why could CCHQ offer to reinstate your booking if pitches were not usable.0 -
Perhaps 'Halon's razor' is appropriate here.
