Happy Easter at Chatsworth again
There seems to be an error on my original thread so here we are again. Very limited power at Chatsworth - the warden has just knocked to advise us that some parts of the site still have no power. We do have it but have been asked to limit use.
There is NO mains water due to damage to the pumps. Looks like we may be going home tomorrow. Good job we are only an hour away but it's sad for those who have made a long journey.

Will they be stopping all those that are due to arrive tomorrow. There's bound to a large number of very annoyed members over the weekend, as I suppose the site was fully booked for the holiday period.

I've just taken the dog out and some parts of the site are in darkness except for the lights from the caravans. Large number of Western Power Distribution vans in the car park with arc lights and a digger so they're clearly working to get things back to
normal. Water will be the major problem.0 -
Whilst what you say BB is true, what about the caravaners who could well be on their first break of the year. My thoughts are with all those on site who have had the problems that power and water shortages may have brought, who knows some MH's might have
arrived with empty water tanks!!!!Hope the power stays on and the boiler can be sorted asap and that the rest of the weekend is good for Everybody.

As a previous caravan owner ,I was guilty of just plugging in to the EHU and that was it , if there was a mains outage then we just waited until it came back on befor we could boil the electric kettle , but being a new MotorHome user we will be using more
gas and 12volt and solar panel power to explore the greater freedom a M/H can give usReminde me, what is that long orange lead for ????

these sort of hiccups shouldnt stop most MHers...
nice to have large water tanks, refillable gas and solar power with twin batteries...i guess most MHers wouldnt even notice the problems....

Write your comments here...BB you are a proper wind -up merchant. It doesn't matter how big your holding tank is if there is no water to go in it!.There is no sun for your Solar Panel,your refillable gas runs out,your cycles get a puncture and your Motorhome

Corners, youve dived in again and not really read what i posted.....
i was suggesting that, while many use ehu exclusively where available, it might be prudent to have a back up as incidents loke this do happen occasionally....
if it were raining and i advised you to take a brolly because i used ine last week and it worked well, would you criticise me for 'trying to get you to do it my way' or would you go out in the rain and get wet....?
...or you might take a brolly, as advised....
Brolly? Brollies are generally useless, I have a rather good and expensive gore tex jacket which is far more effective than a brolly. My point is, you use a brolly if you want to and I wouldn't insist that you do things my way.

we generally travel with water on board, the sun always shines wherever we go, our gas bottle seems never ending and our bike tyres are puncture proof....
our glass is always half full.....

well, maybe your 'advice' often comes across as you should do this, 'be prepared to use it' Some may just not like that, and then you end up with you being called a 'wind up merchant' or 'sowing seeds of discord' to quote a few. You are giving good advice but let people holiday their own way?

indeed, and I wouldn't class it as one at all, it would just add to the fun, no heating for a day or so, still fun. That's why I caravan, its more fun than any other holiday. It takes me back to putting up a blanket between two chairs when I was a kid and pretending I was on Mount Everest

So, we buy an £80k MH, Solar panels, new gas system, plus all the paraphernalia that goes with it, drive around with gallons of water to be prepared for the once a lifetime chance the lekky is down on a site we visit, really?. I prefer to load & go & take
life as I find it. Life really isn't that difficult

I am pleased for those at Chatsworth that, with the exception of hot water in the block, it has all been sorted out. Hopefully they can enjoy the rest of their break. However, reading all this has made me think about how we would cope. We have been on sites with short outages, but nothing of this magnitude. We always carry 2 gas, as they are in a mid locker and nose weight is not a problem. So we would be OK on gas for a while. We are guilty though of not running our appliances regularly on gas, so this is something I will try and do more often, to avoid problems getting them going. 12 volt would be our main problem, as we usually use the power mover to position the van, so it would not have a full charge. Lights are LED so minimal drain, however the heating pump will use more. Not sure how long this would last. We have no way of recharging the battery other than mains. Of course the only water we travel with is a few bottles of mineral water, which would last a while for drinks. I would imagine this scenario would apply to many caravaners.
